India Women: Shiv Sundar Das named as India Women batting coach, Abhay Sharma new fielding coach- Days after the appointment of Ramesh Powar as head coach, former India men’s Test opener Shiv Sundar Das has been named as the India Women batting coach. Meanwhile, Abhay Sharma who is a former Delhi wicket-keeper has been appointed as fielding coach.
“This is the first time I have been assigned a job with the India women’s national team, so it’s a quite exciting time for me,” Das told ESPNCricinfo about his new role.
“I’m really looking forward to it. It will be a good challenge for me because I’ve toured England as a player and played a lot of league cricket. Conditions-wise I’m a bit familiar, so it will be nice to add value to the team. My focus is only on the England tour as of now because I’ve come in for the England tour,” he added.
Shivsundar Das has previously worked with the Women A team. He has played 23 Tests and 4 ODIs for India while Abhay Sharma has featured in over 100 first-class and List A matches for Delhi and Railways.
It remains unclear whether Tracy Fernandes has been retained as physio.
Meanwhile, Trupti Bhattacharya has been replaced as manager of the Women’s team. Her stint had finished after the South Africa tour of India. Rajkuvardevi Gaekwad, who is the current Baroda women’s selection panel chief, replaces her for the top job.
India women will tour England for one-off Test and three each ODI and T20Is. The India contingent will leave India on May 2 after a couple of weeks of mandatory quarantine at the team hotel in Mumbai.
The trio of Ramesh Powar, Shiv Sundar Das and Abhay Sharma will be accompanying India Women’s squad on their tour to England.
