Indian cricket is the way forward for Chinese brands



The announcement  by the BCCI of  China’s  mobile giant Oppo as the as the new sponsor of the  Team India jersey has opened up a interesting story.

The Dragon nation ‘ China’ as often referred to, may not be playing cricket but the shrewd Chinese business houses, are not shying  from striking deals to grab best marketing opportunities in world’s biggest cricket market.

The Chinese as the stats show have now completely grabbed the biggest cricket market in the world in India .

The major deals off-late  are as  follows :

VIVO –  Title sponsor of the Indian Premier League. Signed in 2015, two year deal reported to be of Rs 200 cr

OPPO – Sponsors of the Team India jersey – Rs 1079. 29 cr in a five year deal

PayTM (majorly funded by the Chinese fund Alibaba) – Title sponsors of the BCCI. Four year deal signed in 2015.  Rs 203 crore, or Rs 2.42 crore per match.

Gionee – The mobile company’s revenue last year in India was Rs 9,500 crore. Indian cricket captain Virat Kohli, the biggest cricket brand ever, is its Brand ambassador
