Indian sports’ leading ladies take PadMan challenge

The PadMan challenge, an awareness campaign for menstrual hygiene, has become a big hit on social media with women from all walks of life speaking about the subject loudly. The leading ladies of Indian sport are also participating actively in the challenge.

The Indian women wrestling team has also taken to Twitter with a picture of top female wrestlers holding sanitary napkins, akin to much talked about ‘PadMan Challenge’. The picture is shared by Commonwealth gold medallist Babita Phogat on her official Twitter handle. The caption reads “Women wrestling team accept the challenge, Soch badal rahi h …..nothing to be ashamed of, It’s natural period.”

Babita’s sister, veteran Geeta’s has gone a step further and challenged Salman Khan, Akshay Kumar and her husband Pawan Kumar Saroha to complete the challenge.

Earlier, India’s badminton queen Saina Nehwal had posted her picture, holding a sanitary napkin, as she was holding a sanitary napkin.

PV Sindhu too had posted her picture on Instagram, with a thanks message for Deepika Padukone for tagging her.

The PadMan challenge has gone viral on social media. It is related to the Akshay Kumar starrer ‘PadMan’, also featuring Sonam Kapoor and Radhika Apte in key roles. The film is inspired social entrepreneur Arunachalam Muruganantham story of how he has invented the machine for manufacturing low-cost sanitary pads for the women of his village.

Muruganantham has also initiated the #PadManChallenge on the social media to create awareness about menstruation and usage of sanitary pads, and tagged other people to take up the challenge.
