India’s first sport litfest, SporTale, to be launched in Pune

Sports stars, editors, advertising professionals, writers and authors will gather in Pune later this month for SporTale, a festival on sports literature, to narrate untold stories from the world of sport.

The two-day festival, backed by InsideSport, will have stars like Virat Kohli, Virender Sehwag, Sunil Gavaskar and VVS Laxman, among several others. Vijay Shekhar Sharma, whose company Paytm is a BCCI sponsor, will also be present for the event.

Dozens of luminaries from the world of sports, media, cinema, books and advertising will be associated with the festival, which is the first of its kind being organised in India. The festival is being held on February 21 and 22.

Could excellence in the field of sports have a lesson in it for business? Indian cricket captain Virat Kohli will share the stage with Vijay Lokapally, senior cricketer writer with The Hindu and author of Virat’s cricketing journey ‘Driven’. The run-machine will also engage in a tete-a-tete with the young entrepreneur, Paytm founder Vijay Shekhar Sharma.

Shaji Prabhakar, former FIFA head for South-East Asia and the author of “Back to the Roots” will have a discussion on the state of soccer in India at grassroots level. Hrishikesh Shende, Director Football, Addidas India, and the DSK Shivajians Football Club owner, Shirish Kulkarni will share their thoughts on the issue.

Sporting biopics like MS Dhoni: The Untold Story, Bhag Milkha Bhag, Chak De, Dangal and Sultan have caught the imagination of the people in India. The chemistry behind the sport on celluloid that sets silver screen on fire will be the subject of discussion between advertising professional Prasoon Joshi, director Ali Abbas Zafar, script writer Jaideep Sahani and film critic Rajeev Masand. Vishal Malhotra of the Mauka Mauka campaign fame on Star Sports, advertising guru Piyush Pandey and creative director at W+K Mohamed Rizwan will reveal what goes into making of the good sports campaigns on TV.
