The love affair of Bollywood and cricket continues on the digital platform Amazon Prime as the second season of Emmy-nominated Inside Edge premiers today (Friday) on Amazon Prime Video.

First original series of Amazon released in 2017 comes back with its second season after a long gap of 29 months. Actor turned producer Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani have produced the show which revolves around Power Play League, just like the Indian Premier League. To showcase Politics and Cricket is the primary idea of the series along with highlighting the issues of Match-Fixing, Drugs and Doping.

The first season of Inside Edge which was aired in July 2017 was positively received by audience and critics and was nominated for Best Drama series at 46th International Emmy Awards. “The shows cater to the millennials or people who are not watching television. They are able to watch when it is convenient for them, they don’t need to go to the theatres or sit in front of TV at 9. So when you are creating something like that, it’s more of a binge-watching at one’s convenience”, said the producer of the show Ritesh Sidhwani in conversation with the Indian Express.

Former Indian opener and Twitter master Virender Sehwag expressed his love for the show when he along with Gaurav Kapur recalled season 1 before the launch of Inside Edge season 2 in PPL Inside Innings Recap. Season 1 was all about Mumbai Mavericks, one of the teams in the Power Play League and how the players and owners went about cricket and match-fixing.

Season 2 as it premiers today brings out the much-awaited Bhaisaab (Aamir Bashir) out in the picture as the president of the Indian Cricket Board. It also stars Angad Bedi starring in the show as a former captain of Mavericks, now captaining Haryana Hurricanes. He comes from a family of cricketing background with his father, Mr. Bishan Singh Bedi, being a former Indian Captain and even Angad Bedi has played junior cricket in his early days. The cast also includes the likes of Richa Chadha as the c0-owner of Mavericks and Vivek Oberoi who managed the game from outside in season 1.

After a suspenseful end to season 1, the fans will definitely like to watch season 2 which is more conniving in nature and raises the fun quotient. It is an enjoyable commentary without being heavy on senses. Rated 8.0 on IMDb, Inside Edge Season 2 can be viewed exclusively on Amazon Prime Video.
