IPL 2020 : 7 IPL teams ‘book charter flight’ worth 1Cr to transport Eng-Aus players to UAE

The Indian Premier League (IPL 2020) franchises does not want to miss out on the top players from England & Australia currently on national duty. Now according to a report by the Mumbai Mirror, franchises have collectively made some special arrangements to transport their players safe, secure and as quickly as possible to UAE.
The report claims that the 7 IPL teams have collectively hired a charter plane to bring 22 players from Manchester to Dubai. The cost to engage the charter for the players will be whooping 1 Crore. Mumbai Indians is the only franchise who is not participating in the exercise because none of their player is currently engaged in the series.
According to the report,
– Players will first board the sanitized bus from stadium to the airport.
– The driver engaged for the bus is already part of the ECB’s bio-bubble.
– The players will not be stopped for lengthy immigration process
– Arrangements are being made to make them wait less and contactless immigration process is followed
– The aircraft too will be sanitized with its crew
– The aircraft would land at a different airport, not at the regular Dubai International Airport.
– Post that teams will make arrangement to pick their players.
The whole idea behind the exercise would be to transport players from one bio-bubble to the other. So that they can be exempted from mandatory 6 days quarantine period.
“It has all been taken care of. The idea is that they are not outside of the bubble. If we had flown them by commercial flights, they would have had to undergo quarantine. And cost wise also it would have been dearer as each player will have to be flown by business class. Close to Rs 1 crore for 22 players is not much I suppose,” a franchise official has been quoted in the report by Mumbai Mirror
IPL 2020 : Will the exercise allow the players to get quarantine exemptions and play first game of IPL 2020 ?
InsideSport at this stage could not independently verify if the BCCI will exempt the players from the mandatory 6 day quarantine. As per the last discussion with BCCI’S official present in Dubai, InsideSport was clearly told – that no quarantine relaxations will be given to the England, Australian cricketers.
“We can’t lower our guard. Any relaxation to anyone can cost us the IPL edition. Franchises have to live with the fact that some cricketers will miss one or two games. We all need to be vigilant and compliant in these very difficult times”, senior BCCI functionary had told InsideSport earlier on the issue.
