Ravichandran Ashwin has initiated the move to leave Kings XI Punjab – his Indian Premier League team for two seasons. Delhi Capital will be the destination next for the India and Tamil Nadu veteran.
Shortly after Delhi Capitals mentor Sourav Ganguly has hinted that the JSW Sports-owned franchisee will be happy to have Ashwin in their ranks, the star all-rounder is being reported to be all set to join the IPL’s Delhi franchisee.
Delhi Capitals are reportedly buying Ashwin in an all-cash deal with Kings XI Punjab, who had acquired Ashwin for ₹ 7.6 crore ahead of the 2018 season. Sunrisers Hyderabad were the other IPL franchisee trying to rope in Ashwin for IPL 2020. Ashwin has led KXIP for two successive seasons, but failed to lift the team beyond seventh and sixth positions respectively.“Ashwin’s release approval is already with the BCCI and an announcement is likely soon. Delhi Capitals showed interested in him and KXIP, after thinking it through, felt they needed a younger spinner in the squad,” a source close to the development told PTI.
Sunrisers Hyderabad had also shown interest in Ashwin but the Delhi Capitals made the first move after being in talks with KXIP for the past few weeks. Delhi Capitals will be Ashwin’s fourth franchise in IPL after Chennai Super Kings, Rising Pune Supergiant and KXIP.
