Byju’s has acquired the title sponsorship of the Kolkata Knight Riders for the Indian Premier League 2020. The Indian national cricket team sponsor brand will replace Nokia as the title sponsor of the Shah Rukh Khan-co-owned IPL team.
The KKR were left hunting for the principal sponsor after Nokia in a late development had declined to extend the partnership. The Finnish mobile phone handset brand has sponsored the KKR for nine of the past 12 seasons of the IPL. Gionee had replaced Nokia between 2015 and 2017, before the latter returned to the Kolkata IPL team with a two-year deal.
Initially, the KKR and Nokia appeared well-poised to continue their partnership. However, in a late development Nokia had decided against making the big financial commitment.
The team has taken to its official social media accounts to confirm the signing with world’s leading learning app. “Delighted to welcome BYJU’S as the Principal Sponsor of #KKR. Looking forward to learning together, and having a successful VIVO #IPL2020⚡. BYJU’S – The Learning app ? Kolkata Knight Riders @IPL,” reads the tweet at the KKR twitter handle @KKRiders.
