“Let’s make #Thala @msdhoni finish it off in style! Vote now! #WhistlePodu,” reads a tweet followed by emoji of a lion and a heart on the Chennai Super Kings official twitter handle @ChennaiIPL.

What will an average fan and ardent followers of the Yellow Lions and Dhoni will read into this? More so when it has come in the backdrop on the speculation about the future of the Indian cricket legend, who has not played a game ever since India’s exit after the ICC World Cup semi-final last year.

Dhoni himself had asked his fans and followers to wait till January for the next update on his plans. The Chennai Super Kings and former Team India skipper was expectedly hinting at the TV show based on the stories Indian Army officers, which is reportedly going to produce.

However, with the onset of January comes the CSK tweet. The text and tenure of the tweet will give an obvious air to the speculation about Dhoni’s future.

Insidesport.co reached out to the Chennai Super Kings Chief Executive KS Vishwanathan for clarification. The veteran sports administrator dismissed all speculation about Dhoni’s retirement.

The tweet is aimed at persuading the CSK and Dhoni fans to vote for the Chennai IPL team captain in an ongoing ESPN poll to pick the men’s cricketer of the decade between 2010 and 2019.

The ESPN poll after over 1.5 mn votes has pruned down eight nominees – Virat Kohli, Ben Stokes, Steven Smith, Kane Williams, AB de Villiers, Dale Steyn, MS Dhoni and Sakib Al Hassan – in run-up to pick the cricketer of the decade.

Dhoni needs major push to climb up the ladder. That has led to the CSK asking its over 5.3 million supporters to back Dhoni in his quest to sign off the decade in style. “Any talk on Dhoni’s cricketing future will be premature,” confirmed the CSK CEO.

Dhoni has led Chennai Super Kings for all 10 years of their existence in the IPL. He is set to spearhead the Yellow Lions for the 11th time this year.
