This Indian Premier League (IPL 2020) Chennai Super Kings (CSK) is struggling without its mainstay and the highest scorer Suresh Raina. The complete batting line-up and batting order is in disarray resulting in two loses in two consecutive games. CSK batsman look clueless without the presence of one of the most important cog in the wheel i.e Raina who brings solidity to the line up by batting @ No. 3 position.
Raina pulled out of IPL 2020 due to ‘personal reasons’ giving a big jolt to CSK’s chances in the 13th edition of the league. But post that he has dropped hints on many occasions that he may go back to CSK camp soon. “I’ve been training even while quarantining here. You never know you might see me in the CSK camp once again”, he said recently in an interview.
Sources close to Raina also told InsideSport a week back that Raina may head back to Dubai soon.
“He wants to join the CSK camp as he has sorted all issues at his end”, informed the person close to Raina.
Raina wants to comeback, CSK needs him – than where is the hitch ?
The issue for Raina is that the team management has still not given their green-signal to Raina’s comeback. Despite of Raina’s willingness to make a comeback and apology for his hasty retreat from Dubai, the team management including captain MS Dhoni, coach Stephen Fleming and others are still not comfortable giving Raina another chance.
InsideSport tried reaching out to both CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan and CSK owner N.Srinivasan on their official take on the issue but both stayed incommunicado.
Though CSK is yet to pick any replacement for Raina, but once he left, he was reportedly removed from CSK’s WhatsApp group. “Since then he has reached out to the team-management including CEO, Dhoni and Fleming and is looking for a chance to return”, indicated source close to Raina.
But CSK’s core group is yet to relent and give his comeback a green signal.
IPL 2020 : Will MS Dhoni allow Suresh Raina’s comeback ? What are the chances ?
CSK Owner Srinivasan earlier talking to a news agency had declared that he will not interfere in any cricketing matter.
“Look, please understand, that’s not my domain at all,” he was quoted as saying by a news agency. “We own a team, we own the franchise but we do not own players. I don’t own the players. I am not the cricket captain… We have the greatest captain of all times. So, why shall I even interfere in cricketing matters?”
Even if CSK agrees, will BCCI rules allow Raina’s comeback ? The BCCI official confirmed to InsideSport that if the team would request, they will not have any problem allowing him to comeback. But he will have to follow all IPL 2020 Covid-19 protocols as he has moved out of the IPL Bio-Bubble.
– 6 Days Quarantine after landing in UAE
– 3 Covid-19 negative tests
– Post that he can will be allowed to join the IPL BIO-BUBBLE
This means even if Dhoni allows Raina’s comeback, he will only be available after 7-8 days in quarantine.
The good part is CSK have a six-day break before their next outing. CSK’s next outing will be against Sunrisers Hyderabad on October 2nd, fans of the team will expect Dhoni to relent and allow Raina to comeback as soon as possible.
