IPL 2020: Four unknowns who have now become megastars of IPL 2020

It’s been just 12 days since the commencement of Indian Premier League 2020 and the tournament has already witnessed some high-voltage performances. While some of the big names have not lived upto expectations so far, there have been some players who rose to the occasion and have made their mark in IPL 2020 already.

Here we take a look at the four players who have surprised everyone with their performance in IPL 13 so far:

Rahul Tewatia (Rajasthan Royals)

RR all-rounder Tewatia played a blinder against Kings XI Punjab, scoring 53 from 31 deliveries. The 27-year-old stunned the world with his heroics in Sharjah as he smacked Sheldon Cottrell for 5 sixes in the 18th over, propelling Rajasthan to the highest ever successful run-chase in IPL history as they chased down a record 224 against Punjab.

Ishan Kishan (Mumbai Indians)

MI picked Ishan Kishan in playing XI as an injury replacement of Saurabh Tiwary for the game against Royal Challengers Bangalore. And the 22-year-old batsman, who has the technique and the ability to explode with the bat, grabbed the opportunity with both hands as he smashed 99 runs off just 58 balls, including 9 sixes and 2 fours, to help Mumbai level the mammoth score of 201 runs.

However, Ishan’s knock went in vain as RCB clinch thriller on last ball of Super Over.

Thangarasu Natarajan (Sunrisers Hyderabad)

SRH pacer T Natarajan pleasantly surprised the cricket fraternity on Tuesday in a match against Delhi Capitals with his pinpoint yorkers. The 29-year-old was given the ball in the 14th over of the match when DC required 85 runs to win in 42 deliveries with hard-hitting batsmen Rishabh Pant and Shimron Hetmyer present at the crease.

Natarajan, however, was unfazed as he bowled 6 yorkers in his over and left everyone surprised. The pacer gave just 25 runs in four overs and also dismissed Marcus Stoinis with an accurate yorker in the 18th over after which DC were left with no proper batsman to see them through as Hyderabad won the game by 15 runs thus registering their first victory of IPL 2020.

Shubman Gill (Kolkata Knight Riders)

KKR batsman Shubman Gill once again showed why he has been termed as ‘next big thing’ time and again, as on Saturday the youngster smashed unbeaten half-century to guide his side to 7-wickets victory over Sunrisers Hyderabad in Indian Premier League 2020.Gill hit 70 off 62 balls which included 5 fours and 2 sixes to help Kolkata chase down the modest 145-runs target in just 18 overs. The 21-year-old came out to open for KKR and remained on the crease till the very last ball of the game thus making sure that his team cross the finishing line without any difficulties.

It was a very mature innings by Shubman after KKR lost early wickets during their chase. The opener was also presented with ‘Man of the match’ award for his stupendous display.

Interestingly, former England great Kevin Pietersen wa so impressed with Gill that he said, ‘Shubman should be the captain of KKR’.
