On Friday morning itself Eoin Morgan has been handed responsibility to captain Kolkata Knight Riders and on the Day1 of the office itself he has to face one of the biggest defeat for his team. KKR were defeated by the Mumbai Indians in Abu Dhabi on Friday in perhaps the most one-sided game that we have seen till now in IPL 2020. And the performance has completely gutted the new skipper.
Morgan without hesitation has admitted that Mumbai Indians in such a form is very difficult to beat.
After winning the toss and deciding to bat first, the team never seemed to be in control of their innings. Wickets tumbled at ease and by the time we got to the half point of the innings, the KKR were all stuttering at 61/5. From there, it was just about trying to get to a decent target, and some sensible batting from the new skipper Eoin Morgan and all-rounder Pat Cummins ensured that the team managed to reach 148.
We were never really in the game, says Morgan. Speaking at the end of the game, KKR skipper Eoin Morgan admitted that his team was never really in the game.
“We weren’t in the race at all really, being four or five down [in 10 overs]. That’s not the kind of start you want. We got a score to bowl at in the end, but the way Mumbai got off, it is tough to stop them,” Morgan said.
IPL 2020 Mumbai Indians win : Rohit Sharma elated, says ‘very happy with the performance’
Elated with Mumbai Indians 8-wicket win, the team’s skipper Rohit Sharma called his side’s performance “special” in Abu Dhabi on Friday. Mumbai Indians shined in all departments of the game to pip Delhi Capitals on the top of the 8-team IPL 2020 points table.
“It’s special to chase and win, gives us plenty of confidence. We didn’t chase a lot in the first half (of the tournament), think we were clinical with both bat and ball, the expected performance was there,” Rohit Sharma said in the post-match presentation ceremony.
“I thought we turned up very well, right from the start. I believe a lot in match-ups, we have got success as a team (doing it) – understanding the match-ups is important but we need to be instinctive at times.
“Krunal and Rahul also bowled to Russell, I took a chance with the ball gripping and turning, but I knew Bumrah was the go-to guy against him.
“I prefer batting with him (de Kock), he’s very straightforward, likes to take on the bowler from the word go – but I usually like to assess the situation. Will let him play the way he wants to, don’t want to put any pressure on him.
“This tournament is very funny, can’t take the foot off the pedal at any time, we have seen teams lose at times. The guys are very hungry, they haven’t played a lot over the last six months – be it Ishan or Hardik, they want to play and they want to win, gives us plenty of confidence,” Rohit Sharma added
