IPL 2020 : KKR reportedly signs new wicket-keeper batsman from New Zealand

In the Dream11 IPL 2020, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) campaign is going topsy turvy. Eoin Morgan’s squad will play Sunrisers Hyderabad in crunch game at 3.30 PM. But in a big development KKR has decided to recruit New Zealand wicket-keeper batsman Tim Seifert in their squad. Seifert will replace injured USA fast bowler Ali Khan in KKR’s squad. Seifert will soon join KKR in UAE.

The development is yet to be officially announced by the KKR management. But a report in Stuff on Friday had mentioned that Northern Districts, Seifert’s domestic team, had “confirmed” that the cricketer “was another absentee [for the Plunket Shield] in coming weeks, summoned to the IPL as a replacement player”.

IPL 2020 : KKR to recruit Tim Seifert, check who is Seifert ?

Seifert is a short-format specialist from New Zealand. He has played for New Zealand in three ODIs and 24 T20Is, and averages 22.85 with a strike rate of 139.75 in the latter. He was Khan’s colleague during the Trinbago Knight Riders’ title-winning run at the CPL but didn’t have too good a time of it, struggling on the sluggish pitches to score just 133 runs in nine innings at a strike rate of 109.91.

Khan, 29, was the first player from USA to be recruited in IPL. He himself was an injury replacement, having come after England fast bowler Harry Gurney pulled out of IPL 2020 because of a scheduled shoulder surgery.

IPL 2020 : By recruiting Seifert, is KKR taking another cover for out of form Dinesh Karthik?

KKR’s ex captain Dinesh Karthik is badly struggling for form. He has already been dropped as captain of KKR and now their are questions marks over his place in the team.
By recruiting Seifert, KKR now has one more option to replace Karthik in the squad. KKR already has Tom Banton and Nikhil Naik in the squad who can be picked as replacements for Karthik in the forthcoming matches.
