IPL 2020 KKR vs RCB Preview: Lockie Ferguson vs AB de Villiers in mouth-watering clash for IPL 2020 playoffs

Dream11 IPL 2020 KKR vs RCB : Boosted by Ferguson’s spectacular entry, Kolkata Knight Riders beat Sunrisers Hyderabad in a Super Over showdown. Royal Challengers Bangalore, on the other hand, rode on AB de Villiers blistering 55 off 22 balls to hand Rajasthan Royals their sixth loss of the season. On Wednesday, fans will be in for a mouth-watering clash between ‘Lockie’ and ‘ABD’, as both KKR and RCB put hopes on their star performers to get them an inch closer to IPL 2020 playoffs.

So who will emerge victoriously and lead his team to another win?

IPL 2020: Lockie Ferguson boost KKR’s confidence

KKR’s ploy against SRH to put trust on their best pacers has given them a significant edge over the other four teams in the race for a playoff berth.

Pairing Rs. 15cr Pat Cummins with Rs 1.6cr Lockie Ferguson was a move many had been asking but no one had seen it coming at this stage of the tournament. Nonetheless, the move immediately paid dividends.

The pacer was not thought as certified as he failed to make an impact in the 2019 season, picking up two wickets in five games and conceding 10.76 runs per over. However, Lockie’s stocks rose after he finished the World Cup last year as the second-highest wicket-taker.

With Sunil Narine suspended due to suspected bowling action, Lockie was given a chance to unleash his Balboa-Esque demeanour. On the very first ball of the season, he delivered the uppercut, only to thump SRH.

A dangerous-looking Kane Williamson perished while attempting an uppercut. He showed the tricks he had up his sleeve in his following over by executing a perfect leg cutter that rattled Priyam Garg’s stumps. Those two wickets completely turned the game on its head as SRH lost their early advantage.

Two overs later, he made it three wickets in three over with a fierce yorker to send Manish Pandey back to the stands. His arrival, even boosted struggling Cummins’ performance. The Australian came up with one of his best outings to finish with 1/28 in four overs.

However, just like Rocky Balboa, Lockie was yet to deliver the knockout punch. He was entrusted by Morgan to bowl the Super Over after SRH managed to tie the 20 over game. The 29-year-old then hit the timber twice in the Super Over to crush the opposition and eventually hand his side two points.

It would be interesting how AB de Villiers boosts RCB’s chances against Ferguson’s attack.

IPL 2020: AB de Villiers — Mr 360 of RCB

No cricket fan associates ABD with the word “Nervousness”. He is that one player who you create in a computer game with all the attributes set maximum. However, even Mr 360 on Saturday after his match-winning knock against Rajasthan Royals confessed that he gets “very, very nervous and erratic” in such chases.

It was a pursuit of 178 against RR, and de Villiers walked out after 13 overs with 76 needed from 42. When it came down to 35 needed from 12, he destroyed Jaydev Unadkat with three consecutive sixes and later sealed the win in Dhoni style.

RCB being a batting-heavy side will want their top two stars Virat Kohli and ABD to be in form against a side which is riding on newly-found confidence. Good news is that even if Kohli fails, de Villiers can still pull off a win single-handedly. de Villiers, to tackle the pace of Ferguson, will most likely take inspiration from his 55 off 24 ball innings against Mumbai Indians where he destroyed Jasprit Bumrah.

Nonetheless, fans are in for a big treat when Ferguson and de Villiers lock horns at Sheikh Zayed Stadium, Abu Dhabi.
