IPL 2020 KKR vs RR: India U-19 World Cup winners Gill, Mavi & Nagarkoti stall Rajasthan Royals’ winning run

Rajasthan Royals suffered their first loss of Indian Premier League 2020 as they were defeated by Kolkata Knight Riders on Wednesday at the Dubai International Stadium. Chasing 175-runs target, RR fell short of 37 runs as they were 137/9 at the end of the 20 overs.

Meanwhile, it was a good day at the office for three KKR young guns – Shivam Mavi, Kamlesh Nagarkoti and Shivam Mavi, as all of them gave top performances to help Kolkata register their second win in three matches.

Gill made his mark in the batting department as he smashed 47 runs off 34 balls, which included 5 fours and a six, after KKR were put to bat first. The 21-year-old also took a good low catch to dismiss Riyan Parag.

Later, Kolkata, who were defending a modest 175-runs target, rode on brilliant bowling performances by Mavi and Nagarkoti to restrict RR to 137.

Nagarkoti, who was just playing his second IPL match, bagged two wickets – Parag and Robin Uthappa, and gave away just 13 runs in the two overs he bowled. The 20-year-old pacer also took a stunner to sent back RR’s swashbuckling all-rounder Jofra Archer.

Meanwhile, Shivam Mavi was named Player of the Match as he removed two inform batsmen – Jos Buttler and Sanju Samson, cheaply to give advantage to KKR. The 21-year-old pacer not only picked crucial wickets but also made pressure on Rajasthan by not letting them open their arm as he gave away just 20 runs in his four overs.

Interestingly, Gill, Mavi and Nagarkoti were part of India U19 squad which won the 2018 World Cup.

Meanwhile, the win against RR saw Kolkata move to second spot on the points table, while Rajasthan slipped to third position.
