Rajasthan Royals batsman Robin Uthappa may land in trouble after he was spotted applying saliva on the ball while fielding during the Indian Premier League 2020 match against Kolkata Knight Riders at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Wednesday.
The incident took place in the third over of the Kolkata’s innings when Uthappa was seen applying saliva on the ball before throwing it back to Jaydev Unadkat, who was bowling the over. A video of the incident went viral on social media.

Notably, the International Cricket Council (ICC) in June had announced a ban on applying saliva to the ball in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic to keep the players and umpires safe from virus transmission. However, the players are allowed to use sweat to shine the ball.
But it seems like that Uthappa forgot the rule and ended up using saliva on the ball. It remains to be seen whether the batsman will be punished for breaching the rule.
Talking about the match, KKR were put to bat first and they rode on Shubman Gill’s 47 and Eoin Morgan’s unbeaten 34 to accumulate 174-6 in the allotted 20 overs.
Rajasthan are at the top of the points table and are unbeaten in the tournament till now, while KKR have won one game and lost one and are at seventh position in the points tally.
