IPL 2020 KKR vs SRH Highlights: Shubman Gill’s steely 70 propels KKR to 7 wickets victory

Shubman Gill smashed 62-ball 70 as Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) beat Sunrisers Hyderabad by 7 wickets at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium, Abu Dhabi on Saturday. KKR lost a few quick wickets in their chase and were reduced to 53/3 before Gill found a willing partner in Eoin Morgan. Together, they put on an unbroken stand of 92 off 70 balls as KKR cantered to a seven-wicket victory.

On the day, SRH had no answers. Gill and Morgan (42 off 29) played with control and did not feel pressured at any point.

Gill’s innings was particularly impressive as he just did all the right things. He wasn’t trying to impress anyone by playing big shots. This was all about winning the match and it showed.

Earlier, Hyderabad scraped its way to 142/4 against Knight Riders on a sluggish wicket. Manish Pandey top scored for SRH with 51 off 38 balls, adding 62 runs for the third wicket with Wriddhiman Saha.

Captain David Warner got to spend more time in the middle than he did in the previous match in which he faced just six balls before being dismissed. On Saturday, he scored 36 off 30 balls but fell to spinner Varun Chakravarthy just as he was looking to shift gears.

His opening partner Jonny Bairstow successfully reviewed a caught behind decision that went against him off Pat Cummins only to be bowled the very next ball of the over. Wriddhiman Saha, who was included in the squad in place of the injured Vijay Shankar, never managed to get going and scored 30 off 31 balls.

IPL 2020 KKR vs SRH: Pat Cummins lives upto his price tag

KKR’s record buy Pat Cummins followed up his underwhelming show in the first match with a masterful performance on Saturday. Having drawn flak for bowling short against Mumbai Indians, the IPL’s most-expensive overseas buy returned tidy figures of 1/19, while spinner Varun Chakravarthy (1/25) outfoxed the dangerous David Warner to derail SRH early on.

Apart from Chakravarthy, Andre Russell was the third wicket taker for KKR, having accounted for the wicket of Manish Pandey.
