IPL 2020 KXIP vs MI: Mumbai Indians’ big dilemma- Pandya Brothers!

IPL 2020 defending champions Mumbai Indians made a slow start to their campaign managing just a solitary victory in the three matches they have played so far. While the team has made a name out of making comebacks, a pressing concern for the Rohit Sharma led franchise is the poor form of the Pandya brothers- Hardik and Krunal.

Without Hardik-Krunal firing, can MI script turnaround?

Mumbai Indians are known for their fightback prowess as they have done so well to become the most successful team in IPL- with 4 titles. And a key cog of that success has been the success provided the by Hardik and Krunal.

The duo has been an integral cog in the team and were the gamechangers in MI’s record winning IPL title in last edition. However, they have looked a pale shadow of their former self, with the pair failing both with the willow and ball so far this season.

Hardik scored 18 and 14 in the last two games against Kolkata Knight Riders and Chennai Super Kings. While Krunal is equally adept with the bat and ball, he too has failed to make a mark as he did in last season.

Krunal has managed to score just 4 runs and one scalp in the IPL 2020 season so far.

There is a special bond between Hardik Pandya and Mumbai Indians (MI). It’s been only five years since he’s playing for the franchise but it was with them that he shot into the limelight. He had done well in domestic cricket but it was the scouting team from MI that helped him earn an IPL contract and now, he’s one of the most important members of the side.

Hardik Pandya unable to ball, Bumrah inconsistent- concerns many for MI

The 26-year-old Hardik, who underwent a back surgery in London in November last year and returned to cricket in March, did not bowl for Mumbai Indians in the first two IPL games. While MI Director of Cricket Operations Zaheer Khan seems confident of Hardik bowling, it is yet to be seen if he has handed over the ball and how well he can deliver if indeed he is bestowed with the responsibility.

Another setback and a major cause of concern for them will be pace ace Jaspirt Bumrah’s inconsistency. The speedster has picked up only three wickets in as many games and has failed to make the kind of impact that is expected from a bowler of his calibre.

KXIP vs MI head to head

Both the teams have played 24 games out of which Mumbai have won 13 games. In their last five encounters, MI have three games to their names.
