The KL Rahul led Kings XI Punjab has enjoyed a resurgence in their form after picking up five consecutive wins to keep themselves alive in the IPL 2020 Playoffs race.
However, KXIP is next slated to lock horns against RR which will be the most decisive league game. If RR lose they will be out. If KXIP can pick up their sixth consecutive win- the first team to do so in IPL 2020, they will become very solid contenders to qualify.
The KXIP team looks on a mission as they thrashed Kolkata Knight Riders by eight wickets in the match no. 46 of Indian Premier League 2020 on Monday to register 5th consecutive victory in IPL 2020.
The win means they leapfrog the Kolkata Knight Riders and are currently now in the fourth place on the points table with 12 points.
How KKR’s results will affect KXIP’s Playoffs chances- Check the possible scenarios
Chennai Super Kings, who are already eliminated will take on KKR tonight but can spoil the party for Purple and Gold army. KKR with 12 points from 12 matches need to win today’s game to keep themselves in the hunt for Playoff place.
If KKR lose, they will be more or less go out of the IPL 2020 Playoff race because of extremely inferior NET RUN RATE.
If they win both their remaining matches, they can have similar points as KXIP (if they win both of their remaining matches), MI, DC and RCB (each team wins one of their remaining matches at least). In this situation, the teams with a higher NRR will go through from all the five teams.
If they win only one of their remaining matches then they will have to hope that KXIP also lose one of their remaining matches and if KXIP win all of their remaining matches then they will have to hope that one of DC, MI and RCB, lose all of their remaining matches so in this case, the team with a better NRR will make a place in the playoff as the fourth team.
As of now KXIP are in driver seat in the playoff race – check what more is required for them to qualify for playoffs –
- Sixteen points will ensure their progress into the playoffs without any riders which means they have to win both their remaining games.
- However, if they lose one of their last two games and finish on 14, then things will get tricky. At this stage 7 teams can potentially finish on 14 or more points, while the Knight Riders and the top three teams can all get to 16 and eliminate the Kings XI.
- If it comes down to NRR, the Kings XI don’t have much to worry from the Knight Riders or the Rajasthan Royals, but the Sunrisers Hyderabad have a better NRR, which will further improve if they win their last three games and finish on 14. However, the Sunrisers’ last three games are against the top three teams – the Mumbai Indians, the Delhi Capitals and the Royal Challengers Bangalore – on the points table.
