Kings XI Punjab batsman Chris Gayle has been fined 10 percent of his match fee for breaching the Dream11 Indian Premier League’s (IPL) Code of Conduct during his team’s match against Rajasthan Royals at Abu Dhabi on Friday.
Gayle, who made 99 before KXIP lost by seven wickets, flung his bat away in frustration after being dismissed in the final over by Jofra Archer.
“Gayle admitted to the Level 1 offence 2.2 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct and accepted the sanction,” the IPL release stated.
“For Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct, the Match Referee’s decision is final and binding.”
Notably, in the last over of KXIP’s innings, the Jamaican was playing on 99 and needed just a run to complete his century, however, he lost his stumps to a full delivery and was disappointed as he failed to reach the three-figure mark.
Reacting to his dismissal, Gayle swung his bat in disappointment and it literally slipped off his hand to fly towards short mid-wicket.

Talking about the match, Gayle’s masterful 99 went in vain as RR thrashed KXIP by seven wickets in the IPL 2020 match no. 50.
Chasing a challenging 186-run target, Rajasthan rode on Ben Stokes’ 50 and SanjuSamson’s 48 to cross the finishing line in just 17.3 overs. They now have 12 points from 13 games and are very much alive in the playoffs race.
Meanwhile, KXIP remained at fourth position despite the loss. They also have 12 points from 13 games but a better NRR of -0.133.
