Reason 2 : The arrangement was also temporary. The player who was traded for the mid-season in IPL 2020 was part of the franchise for either six games or nine games depending on whether his team reached the final. For IPL 2021, he was back with his parent franchise.

Reason 3 : Many franchises were also not open about the idea of a player going to another team in the middle of the season as they were fearful that the plans and strategies of the teams could be utilised by the opponent.

9:00 PM : 1 Hour to go before IPL Trading Window closes

8:00 PM : Not a even single trade on IPL 2020 Mid Season Transfer Window. Just 2 hours left. IPL Governing Council will close the window at 10 PM.

8:45 PM : Tomorrow is the 5th and last day of IPL 2020 Mid Season Transfer Window and last chance for teams to make trades. Uptil now the Mid Season Window has completely proved to be damp squib.

Leave aside a single trade, franchises have not even shown any interest in participating in the window.

7:00 pm : Why the IPL Mid Season Transfer Window has not work ? Why franchises are reluctant to make trade ?

Reason 1- The IPL season is shorter so a half-season loan with a bar on playing against your parent club means you would play only six matches at the most. The scope to loan youngsters to help them gain match time is not appealing for franchises.

Reason 2 : The IPL franchises remain insecure about the player loan system is because they believe by releasing a player to a rival franchise they risk disclosing their plans and strategies.

Reason 3 : One other reason is a team buys extra players as back-ups. Take Rahane, whom the Capitals bought from Royals after 2019 IPL as part of a trade. Rahane was bought with the sole purpose of serving back-up for the Capitals’ start-studded Indian top order. Rahane has now served as a replacement for Pant who has a hamstring injury. Similar examples can be seen with Chris Lynn at Mumbai Indians, who is a back-up for Quinton de Kock.

6:30 : Meanwhile Kevin Pietersen has flown back to London as he decided to quit IPL 2020 commentary panel, check why ?

12:15 pm : BCCI & IPL Governing council surprised that franchises are reluctant to use IPL 2020 Mid Season Transfer Window, ‘we are surprised that teams are reluctant to use IPL 2020 MID Season Transfer window’, says IPL GC Member in Dubai. ‘Some action should happen today or tomorrow’

Why the teams are reluctant to trade ?

Reason 1- The IPL season is shorter so a half-season loan with a bar on playing against your parent club means you would play only six matches at the most. The scope to loan youngsters to help them gain match time is not appealing for franchises.

Similar examples can be seen with Chris Lynn at Mumbai Indians, who is a back-up for Quinton de Kock.

10:30 AM : BCCI has shot off mail to all IPL franchises – 1) Directing them to report all injuries to the players 2) Explaining them all Mid Seaosn Window rules once again.

6:30 AM : After Super show by Chris Gayle on Thursday, KXIP has managed to stay alive in the IPL 2020. They may look for a fast bowler in the TRANSFER Window to boost up their attack.

6:00 AM : Why the IPL Mid Season Trasfer Window stayed a non-starter for first 3 days ?

Reason 1- The IPL season is shorter so a half-season loan with a bar on playing against your parent club means you would play only six matches at the most. The scope to loan youngsters to help them gain match time is not appealing for franchises.

Reason 2 : The IPL franchises remain insecure about the player loan system is because they believe by releasing a player to a rival franchise they risk disclosing their plans and strategies.

Franchises are highly unlikely change their rigid mindsets. Resulting in the player loan system as a non-starter.

Answer : Not looking too serious – but let’s wait for the medical team reports

1:15 PM : One of the franchise tells InsideSport, ‘Lack of clarity main reasony why their is no action on the IPL Mid Season Transfer Window’

  • Lack of clarity on the rules
  • IPL Governing Council is yet to take a call if the players traded through the mid-season transfer window can replace the injured players in the squad or not.
  • Rule of traded player can’t play against the home team has not gone down well with the franchise

12:30 : Rishabh Pant to miss minimum 7-10 days before he can resume playing says Delhi Capitals source.

Shreyas Iyer is being assessed for his shoulder. According to Shikhar Dhawan, he can move the shoulder – but in huge pain.

11:00 AM : KXIP will decide after today’s game against RCB whether to participate in IPL Mid Seaosn Transfer Window or not ?

1:30 PM : CSK won’t trade Imran Tahir or anyone else. He expects Tahir to come in as the wickets will now start turning.

“He will definitely come into the picture as we go ahead. Right now, with the conditions on offer, the team composition has been planned with two foreigners at the top as pure batsmen and then two pace bowling all-rounders. 3:00 PM Delhi Capitals on Ajinkya Rahane according to ANI

“He is an integral part of the team and he wasn’t brought in with the idea of trading him mid-season. Whatever be said on the outside, he has been excellent with the team and has looked to give his input wherever possible,” a DC official had said.

2:30 PM This is big news by InsideSport. Delhi Capitals will not trade Ajinkya RahaneD. DC management have confirmed the same to InsideSport

2:00 PM One of the Franchise official says in a competitive environment, you don’t wish to strengthen your opponent.

“There is actually a lot of areas that need to be looked at. But primarily, why would I want to give away a star even if he is not fitting into my XI? This isn’t an exhibition series or tournament. This is hardcore competition and we are competing against seven other top-quality teams to win the tournament and take home the coveted trophy and be called the champions. You might see one or two capped players being exchanged at most, but not more than that,” the official pointed out to ANI.

1:45 PM IPL mid-season transfer: Franchises not keen on gifting capped stars to opponents says ANI report

Speaking to ANI, an official of a franchise which has won the league in the past and has high-quality international players eligible for mid-season transfer — having played less than two games — said that the chances of teams loaning other teams capped players is less.

“An interesting area for sure. But, the league is still wide open and who would want to give away an international player? Also, when you go into the auction, you do a lot of planning and that is why you see a player being picked. Unless there is a major injury worry or some calculation that has gone completely off track, I don’t see anyone loaning a top capped star even if he has not turned out for the parent team this season or has played less than two games as required by IPL rules for a mid-season transfer,” the official said.

1:35: Team which badly needs some players is CSK. Can they get Ajinkya Rahane ? Info InsideSport is getting is that Delhi Capitals is still not sure about trading Ajinkya Rahane in the MID TRANSFER Window.

12:41 PM 4 Possible transfers in MID Tranfer Window

Player: Imran Tahir (CSK).
Who would want him: Delhi Capitals.
Reason: The leg-spinner had 26 wickets last season, but is yet to get a game this season. DC lost the injured Amit Mishra

Player: Ajinkya Rahane (DC)
Who would want him: CSK.
Reason: Rahane has more than 3,800 IPL runs and CSK needs a batsmen of his caliber in XI.

Player: Deepak Hoods (KXIP).
Who would want him: SRH or RR
Reason: KXIP struggling but still haven’t given a chance to Hooda. Both SRH and RR have been searching for the required balance in their middle-order, and Hooda offers versatility.

Player: Chris Lynn (MI).
Who would want him: KXIP or RR
Reason: A set Mumbai Indians playing XI is a reason why Lynn is out of XI. But MI is unlikely to leave for anyone else.

12:10 PM – From today to next five days IPL 2020 MID TRANSFER Window is opened. Teams can trade thier players with each other. Check below –

The window will allow franchisees to assess their position and make choices to bolster their setup going into the business end of the tournament. According to BCCI, all teams should have played half their matches that would be seven for the process to begin.

IPL 2020 Mid Season Transfer: Rules of the mid-season Transfer window

IPL 2020 mid-season transfers: When does it start and duration?

According to the rules laid by BCCI, all teams needed to have played 7 IPL 2020 games for the mid-season transfer to open. And as the game in Sharjah between RCB and KKR was the seventh for both the sides and it meant every franchise has played 7 games in the season.

Last season, a five-day window was created for trading uncapped players. However, none of the franchises decided to utilize it. A similar window also opens this season from Tuesday as well and will be open for five days.

IPL 2020 mid-season transfers: Players eligibility

Only those players who have featured in two or fewer games are available for the mid-Season transfer window. Anyone who has played more than 2 matches for the franchise this season can’t be transferred or loaned to others.

There should be mutual consent between the franchises while moving the players. By now, all teams have figured out their marquee players. The decision lies with the franchise; they need to identify players they want to keep/release. This is a half-a-season arrangement and the loanee returns to his parent team next season.

IPL 2020 mid-season transfer: Fees of the players

If teams were to loan players, the arrangement would be between the franchises, with the money paid from outside the auction purse. The player will be entitled to his fixed auction price and won’t benefit from such a transfer. The IPL, however, will be notified about the transaction. Although the loanee cannot play against his parent franchise, according to the IPL rules.

IPL 2020 mid-season transfer: Will the loanee have any game restrictions?

Yes, the IPL rules bar him from playing against the lending franchise. It means that the loanee will have to sit out the return-leg fixture against his parent team.

IPL 2020: Is this the best opportunity to sign injury replacements?

Not really. Teams can replace an injured player who is ruled out of the tournament by picking unsold players at base price. This is, of course, subject to the IPL Governing Council’s approval.

IPL 2020 mid-season transfer: Ajinkya Rahane–> CSK

The Capitals have asserted that Rahane, the Indian Test vice-captain, is an important cog in the wheel for them. But finding a place in the playing XI is getting tougher for Rahane as the Capitals top/middle order consisting of Shikhar Dhawan, Prithvi Shaw, Rishabh Pant and Shreyas Iyer is in form and it requires some serious dip in the form of them to warrant a replacement. But it could be a friendly parting of ways so that Rahane can play a few matches in the IPL 2020.

On the other hand, loan signings usually aren’t part of the CSK culture. But this year, as admitted by MS Dhoni, their batting has been struggling. Rahane has more than 3,800 IPL runs to his credit. CSK might just be interested in a proven top-order performer. Someone with Rahane’s experience can definitely shore up their middle-order.
