Amidst confusion and uncertainty over Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s status and future with the Indian national cricket team, Chennai Super Kings have cleared the scenario about their seasoned leader with regard to the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020.
Year 2020 is also the year of the ICC T20 World Cup in Australia where India will be gunning for their second global title in the shortest format of ICC’s competitions. The first crown had come under Dhoni’s captaincy in the ICC World T20 2007 in South Africa. As India renew their bid for the coveted trophy, the picture is not clear yet whether Dhoni will be part of the campaign.
India’s most successful T20 International captain has not yet announced his retirement from limited overs cricket and the five-member national selection committee has not considered him for ODI and T20I series ever since India’s exit from the ICC World Cup 2019. Selectors have also not fully ruled out the veteran for selection, creating an uncertainty over his future.
Dhoni, however, will be in action and lead Chennai Super Kings. The team owner India Cement’s managing director and former BCCI president N Srinivasan has cleared all doubts about Dhoni’s future in IPL. “I can say only one thing. Mahendra Singh Dhoni will only be the captain for the next IPL Chennai Super Kings next season,” Times Now has quoted the 74-year-old business magnet and cricket administrator as saying.
Dhoni has led the Yellow Lions ever since the inception of and in their all the seasons in the IPL.
