IPL 2020: CSK Captain MS Dhoni ready to bat @ No. 4 or 5 against Delhi Capitals on Friday

Don’t be surprised on seeing MS Dhoni coming out to bat at No. 4 for his team Chennai Super Kings (CSK) as they take on Delhi Capitals (DC) in the Indian Premier League (IPL 2020) on Friday.

According to the information coming in from the sources, the CSK team coach Stephen Fleming has been able to convince the captain Dhoni to bat up in the order against the Delhi Capitals.

Dhoni had received a huge amount of flak from his former teammates Gautam Gambhir, Virender Sehwag & England batting legend Kevin Pietersen for demoting himself to number 7 as they were chasing 217 against the Rajasthan Royals.

Sources have told InsideSport that the criticism notwithstanding, both coach & captain had a chat about the issue and it was agreed that by batting up in the order Dhoni will be able to serve the CSK better.

Dhoni scored 29 unbeaten runs in 17 balls against Royals. That is the only time he has spent in the middle in the last 18 months.

The sources told InsideSport that Fleming managed to reason it out with Dhoni that only way he can get his form back is by spending more time in the middle. Post the chat CSK’s captain has agreed to bat either at number 4-5 in the batting order.

“MS is one of the players that hasn’t played much cricket in the last year-and-a-half. Everyone expects MS to come out and do what he has done in the past. It doesn’t just happen, it takes a bit of work,” Fleming said ahead of Friday’s IPL match here against Delhi Capitals.

“… a part of his process of getting up to speed is his game time and that (match against RR) was really the first time that he’d batted in the middle apart from a couple of balls against Mumbai Indians.”

CSK still is expected to open with Shane Watson & Murali Vijay with in-form Faf Du Plessis coming in at number 3.

Ambati Rayudu, who played a blazing 71-run knock in the tournament opener against Mumbai Indians but missed the match against RR due to an injury will again miss out.

Rayudu is our in-form player and to lose him at that time (against RR) was disappointing. Hopefully it’s only a couple of games,” Fleming said.

Depending on the situation either Ruturaj Gaikwad or MS Dhoni will swap positions for No. 4 & 5 in the batting order according to information available with InsideSport.

This will be followed by Kedar Jadhav, Ravindra Jadeja and Sam Curran. Dwayne Bravo is still nursing an injury and will miss out from the CSK 11 for one more time.

CSK paceman Lungi Ngidi who was hit out of the park by Jofra Archer 4 times in the last over is set to be replaced by Josh Hazlewood.
