IPL 2020 : MS Dhoni’s big declaration, ‘CSK core team will be changed for IPL 2021’

Chennai Super Kings has ended IPL 2020 with 3rd consecutive victory and captain MS Dhoni has already his sights on the IPL 2021. Dhoni first declared that he will be playing IPL 2021 and then during the post match interview he made a big announcement that changes have to be made in CSK’s team for the next season.

According to Dhoni, for 3 time champions to be competitive, the core group of CSK will undergo changes.

“A lot depends on what the BCCI decides upon the auction. We need to slightly change our core group and look for the next ten years. At the start of the IPL, we made a team and it served well. There comes a time where you have to shift a bit, hand it over to the next generation.”, declared Dhoni during the post match interview with the official broadcasters.

Dhoni also had a message for the fans that CSK will be back very strong in IPL 2021.

“We’ll come back strong, that’s what we are known for

“It was a difficult campaign for us. I don’t think we played to the full potential. If you are lagging too much, it becomes very difficult to push yourself and come up with performances. Very proud the way they played their cricket. It would have been very tough 6-7 games. You won’t want to be in a dressing room that is not really enjoying cricket. You want to keep coming up with different ideas but if the dressing room atmosphere is not happy, it becomes very tough”, said Mahi.

According to Dhoni the most impressive player in the CSK line up was Ruturaj Gaikawad this year.

“He’s (Ruturaj Gaikwad) somebody who has batted well. He got COVID and was out. Even after 20 days, he wasn’t fit. He didn’t get a lot of practice”, said Dhoni.

Earlier Dhoni made it clear that he will continue his association with CSK and IPL. On the sidelines of game against KingsXI Punjab Dhoni declared that he will continue playing and this game for CSK is not his last IPL game.

In an interview with official broadcaster Star Sports at the time of toss, Dhoni was asked that whether this is his last IPL game for CSK – his answer was, ‘definitely not’

This declaration by Dhoni has made it clear that MS Dhoni will continue playing in IPL for the next season in 2021 as well. It is worth noting that CSK is playing their last IPL 2020 match today against KXIP and they have already exited from the IPL 2020 playoff race.
