9:30 pm IPL 2020 Playoff Race : KXIP vs RR – Interestingly, if KXIP beat RR  then not only it will solidify their playoffs chances but it will be curtains for Rajasthan Royals and also Kolkata Knight Riders, who lost to Chennai Super Kings on Thursday.

1) KXIP beat RR means, Royals will exit the tournament. KXIP will join RCB, DC as third team with 14 points. Mumbai Indians already have 16 points. Royals can’t reach this number even with win in the next match. Maximum they can attain is 12 points – so they exit.

2) KXIP beat RR means – Kolkata Knight Riders will almost be out of the tournament. KKR currently has 12 points from 13 matches with a very inferior NRR of -0.467. Only if KKR wins the next match by a margin of more than 120 Runs – they can have some hope of qualification.

Meanwhile, the victory against RR will see KXIP becoming the biggest contender for the playoffs spot. Two wins (Royals & CSK) will definitely take them into the playoffs. Even if they lose to the Royals on Friday, Kings XI can still qualify if they win their last game and if other results go their way.

IPL 2020 Playoff Race : Mumbai Indians has already qualified for playoffs and Chennai Super Kings is already eliminated. Now from the rest of 6 teams 3 will qualify for playoffs. Check what exactly these 6 needs to qualify for playoffs –

Royal Challengers Bangalore: Played 12, Points 14, Royal Challengers will qualify if they win one of their two remaining matches. Even if they lose both matches and stay on 14 they can still qualify without NRR coming into play, but for that to happen several other results will have to go their way.

Kolkata Knight Riders : Chances almost negligible now. Losing to CSK means that  Knight Riders can only reach 14 points. They can still make the top four, but for that to happen, many other results will have to work in their favour. Kings XI Punjab should lose both their matches, while Rajasthan Royals and Sunrisers Hyderabad should win no more than one. In that case, Knight Riders can make it as the fourth team with 14 points. Last Match vs Rajasthan Royals

Kings XI Punjab : If they can win today against Rajasthan Royals, they can be the biggest contender for playoff spot. Two wins (Royals & CSK) will definitely take them into the playoffs. Even if they lose to the Royals on Friday, Kings XI can still qualify if they win their last game and if other results go their way.

Rajasthan Royals : RR has to first of all win today against KXIP if any hopes of playoff has to kept alive. If they lose, they will be eliminated today. If they win both their games (KXIP, KKR) and hope that CSK defeat Kings XI, Sunrisers win no more than one, then the Royals will be through without NRR coming into play.

Sunrisers Hyderabad : SRH will have win their two remaining games (RCB, MI), and hope that at least one out of Royal Challengers, Delhi Capitals and Kings XI don’t reach 16. In that case, the Sunrisers will surely progress to the playoffs because their NRR is superior to all the teams.

Delhi Capitals : Played 12, Points 14, DC needs to need 1 win to seal their playoff place, but their last two games are against the top two teams on the table i.e RCB & Mumbai Indians. Capitals is currently on a 3 match losing streak. If Capitals lose their last two matches as well, it is entirely possible that Kings XI will go past them on NRR. In that scenario, Capitals could find themselves eliminated if other teams on 14 finish on a higher NRR.

9:00 PM : IPL 2020 Playoff Race : InsideSport analysis – If KKR loses today to CSK, what will happen to playoff race ? Different Scenarios

  • KKR loses today & KXIP wins on Friday – All hopes of KKR qualifying for playoff will end. Reason, KKR has a very inferior NRR than KXIP and even if they win their 14th league match, KKR will not qualify
  • KKR loses today & KXIP also lose on Friday – Still KKR will be the least favorite to qualify because of very low NRR. Moreover it will be lifeline for other conteders RR & SRH
  • KKR wins today & KXIP lose – KKR will be hot favorite to qualify for playoffs in such a scenario provide they win their last league match as well.

6:00 PM : IPL 2020 Playoff Race – Check Playoff Chances of each team

Mumbai Indians : Practically through to playoff. Only way they can lose out on the playoff spot is, if they lose next two games, that too by margin of 190 runs and all other wins. Almost impossible
Royal Challengers Bangalore : have 14 points of 12 games. Currently at number 2, should make it to playoff with one win in next two matches.

Delhi Capitals : Is on a 3 match losing streak but still looking good to qualify. They have 14 from 12 games with decent Net Run Rate. One more victory in next two, should be enough for them to qualify.
KingsXI Punjab : 12 games 12 points. Tomorrow’s match against RR will be crunch game for KXIP. If KL Rahul’s team can deliver 6th consecutive win, you can safely say – they will be hot contender to make playoffs as 4th finisher.
Kolkata Knight Riders : Precariously placed. They have only a one in 16 chance of making it to the playoffs. If they lose today to CSK all their hopes will end as they are sitting on 5th place but with a very inferior run rate.
Sunrisers Hyderabad : Very slim chances. They have 10 points from 12 matches. Even 2 victories in next 2 matches will not be enough for them to make it to IPL 2020 playoffs. They are on the mercy of results of others.

Rajasthan Royals have a less than 3% chance of qualifying without NRR coming into play, but about one in four chance of at least tying for third or fourth slot

Chennai Super Kings : CSK has already been eliminated from the tournament.

11:00 AM : TODAY is the game between KKR vs CSK – Chennai SUPER Kings is already eliminated but they can spoil the party for KKR. KKR with 12 points from 12 matches need to win today’s game to keep themselves in the hunt for Playoff place.

If KKR lose, they will be more or less go out of the IPL 2020 Playoff race because of extremely inferior NET RUN RATE.

6:30AM : Mumbai Indians for all practical purposes has entered IPL 2020 playoffs

  • Mumbai’s 16 points, fantastic net run-rate of 1.186 means they are through to the playoffs.
  • Even if M.I lose their last two games by big margins, they are through. Only situation, they may get stuck is if they lose by an aggregate run margin of around 190 runs. But still 16 points should be good enough to let them finish in top 2.
