IPL 2020: Playoffs race get more complexed as now three teams have eight points

The race for the Dream11 IPL 2020 Playoffs have got complexed with Sunrisers Hyderabad thrashing Rajasthan Royals by eight wickets in the match no. 40 of Indian Premier League 2020 on Thursday.

Now, three teams – SRH, Kings XI Punjab and RR have eight points each and they acquire fifth, sixth and seventh position respectively in the IPL 2020 points table. Also, Kolkata Knight Riders are currently sitting at fourth position but with just 10 points in their kitty. Hence, these four teams have a realistic shot at clinching the final spot for the playoffs.

However, no team has made the cut as yet. But considering the magic number is 8, the Delhi Capitals (7), Mumbai Indians (6), and Royal Challengers Bangalore (8), look good to make it through to the all-important playoffs.

Moreover, defending champions Mumbai, by winning Friday’s game against bottom-placed Chennai Super Kings, will retain the No. 1 spot, thanks to its high Net Run Rate (+1.201 to Delhi’s 0.774). That would also put a playoff spot mathematically and practically out of the reach of Dhoni’s men.

But if CSK win against MI then they will have to continue the streak and win all their remaining games and then rely on the results of other teams in order to make it to the playoffs.

Also, this weekend’s game between Hyderabad and Punjab will be a crucial contest for both the teams as they are almost going neck-to-neck in the points tally. If KXIP wins the game then they will overtake SRH, and if the David Warner-led side wins the clash then they will extend their lead over KXIP.

The bottom line is that every game from now on will be crucial for the bottom five teams and they can’t afford any slip-ups. Especially, KKR, SRH, KXIP and RR will have to be extra careful as they still have a good chance to make it to the knock-out round of IPL 2020. But same can’t be said for CSK as they are hanging by a thread and nothing less than a miracle can save them from getting eliminated in the group stage.
