IPL 2020 : Rajasthan Royals skipper Steve Smith fined 12 Lakh by IPL

Rajasthan Royals Captain Steven Smith has been fined after his team maintained a slow over-rate during their Dream11 Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 match against Mumbai Indians in Abu Dhabi on 6 October 2020.

As it was his team’s first offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences, Mr. Smith was fined Rs 12 lakh.

The Royals lost to Mumbai Indians by 57 runs bowled out for 136 in a chase of 194. Smith could only manage a score of six and was one of four wickets that Jasprit Bumrah took.

With four points from five matches, the Royals are placed seventh on the points table. Their next match is against Delhi Capitals on October 9.

The defending champions now have eight points from six games and net run rate of +1.488.

Meanwhile, the defeat saw Rajasthan slip to seventh position in the points table as they have four points from five games.

Notably, Delhi Capitals, who thrashed Royal Challengers Bangalore by 59 runs on Monday, are now second in the points tally. They have won four out of their five games till now and have 8 points in their kitty.

DC are followed by RCB, who despite losing on Monday, remained on the third spot.

Kolkata Knight Riders are fourth, while Chennai Super Kings, who thrashed Kings XI Punjab by 10 wickets on Sunday, are at fifth position.

Sunrisers Hyderabad are sixth on the points tally, while KXIP is at the bottom of the table.

Meanwhile, Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma scored 35 off 23 balls against Rajasthan Royals on Tuesday to return to top 5 in Orange Cap tally. The 33-year-old batsman is currently fourth in the IPL 2020 leading run-scorer list.

Rohit has so far scored 211 runs in six games at a strike rate of 145.51.

Meanwhile, Kings XI Punjab skipper KL Rahul is on the top of the Orange Cap leaderboard having scored 302 runs in five games at a whopping average of 75.50 and a strike rate of 141.78. Rahul has also smashed a century and two fifties in IPL 2020 so far.

CSK opener Faf du Plessis is second in the tally. The South African has 282 runs in his kitty, including three fifties.

Notably, Rahul’s teammate Mayank Agarwal has slipped to third position in the tally after he was dismissed for mere 26 runs against Chennai on Sunday.

DC skipper Shreyas Iyer is on fifth spot with 181 runs to his name in five matches.

On the other hand, Mumbai Indians pacer Trent Boult moved to second place on the highest wicket-takers list as he bagged two wickets against Rajasthan Royals on Tuesday.

Boult removed Yashasvi Jaiswal in the very first over of RR’s innings and later he sent Royals’ star batsman Sanju Samson back to pavilion.

Overall, the New Zealand pacer has cliched 10 wickets in IPL 2020 so far, at an economy rate of 7.79 and a strike rate of 10.00.

Interestingly, another MI pacer made progress in the tally as Jasprit Bumrah broke into the top five after he picked four wickets against RR on Tuesday. The 26-year-old is currently third in the Purple Cap chart.

Meanwhile, Delhi Capitals pacer Kagiso Rabada climb to the top of the leading wicket-taker list after he pocketed four wickets against Royal Challengers Bangalore on Sunday.

Rabada removed RCB skipper Virat Kohli, Washington Sundar, Shivam Dube and Isuru Udana in the match.

The South African now has 12 wickets to his name in five games and an economy rate of 7.61.

Notably, RCB spinner Yuzvendra Chahal has now slipped to the fourth position with eight wickets in his kitty.

Chahal is followed by MI pacer James Pattinson who bagged two wickets against RR in their latest game.
