Kane Williamson is most likely to miss out on the crucial clash against Rajasthan Royals at Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Thursday. The New Zealand batsman had suffered an injury during the Kolkata Knight Riders match on Sunday due to which Sunrisers Hyderabad made major changes to their batting line-up.
His fitness will be a big concern for SRH, as they gear up to revive their IPL playoffs.
IPL 2020 RR vs SRH: Will Kane Williamson play tomorrow?
Williamson had left the during the first innings against KKR after appearing to have injured his hamstring and looked in discomfort in the chase as well. SRH had to opt to send him in place of David Warner to play the power play and moved David Warner as No.4.
The New Zealand skipper eventually made a 19-ball 29 providing his side the exact start they were looking for. However, his incapability to take singles had seriously hindered his progress of what could have been a memorable innings. The game ended in a tie with KKR coming out on top in the Super Over.
SRH bowling coach Muttiah Muralitharan said “We decided to (open with him) because of the injury,” he said post the game. “He was finding it difficult to run 2s and 3s. We thought this was the best opportunity, because he is playing really well, to use him in the powerplay, give us a good total so that it’s easier for us to win. He did his job but at the end of the day it was a tied match and it happens in T20. We tried hard but nothing went our way.”
Hyderabad skipper David Warner in the post-match conference gave injury update and said that Williamson will hopefully recover with some physiotherapy. “He’s (Williamson) got a niggle near the top end of the adductors, so hopefully he gets some physio treatment in the next couple of days and comes up for our next game,” he said.
InsideSport tried reaching out to SRH for an official update on the right-handed batsman’s injury but there was no reply.
IPL 2020: If Williamson goes out, who comes in?
However, it is most unlikely that Williamson will feature in the crucial fixture. SRH will probably go for Mohammad Nabi. The franchise had dropped a hint on its official Twitter handle. It posted a picture the Afghanistan all-rounder and wrote: “Warning: Big hits from The President incoming”.

IPL 2020 RR vs SRH: A must-win match for both teams
If Rajasthan Royals and Sunrisers Hyderabad want to keep their dream alive, they will have to win every game from now on. SRH are currently placed seventh with six points and a game in hand. If they manage to get two points against RR, they will move to the fifth spot with eight points. But a loss will more or less over their IPL 2020 campaign.
