In Dream11 IPL 2020, SuryaKumar Yadav played one of the most beautiful and sublime innings to completely outclass Virat Kohli’s Royal Challengers Bangalore. With an absolute masterclass of 79 unbeaten runs from 43 balls, each shot Surya played had a question for the Indian selectors written on it.
Why am I not being picked for the Indian team ?
Such was Surya’s magical batting display on Wednesday night, fans, experts and even captain of M.I were left scratching their heads on why a cricketer with such abundance in talent is not in the Indian team ?
“Surya is brilliant, imagine someone coming at number 3 and batting with such a strike rate. He should be disappointed with not being donned blue up till now. He is close, very close”, said Pollard.
Surya’s Super Show against RCB
October 29 was no different for SuryaKumar as he smashed unbeaten 79 off just 43 balls, which included 10 boundaries and 3 sixes, to help MI beat RCB by 5 wickets in the match no. 48 of IPL 2020.
Riding on Surya’s innings, Mumbai chased down the modest 165-run target to practically seal the playoffs berth.
SuryaKumar’s sends a strong message to Team India selectors
With his innings Surya has further raised questions for those selectors who time and again have ignored him for the India colors. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Monday announced the Test, ODI, and T20I squads for the upcoming tour of Australia later this year and the 30-year-old’s name was not included which came as a big surprise or rather shock for many fans and players.
The Mumbai born batsman is in the form of his life at the moment. He is piling up runs in the IPL and domestic circuit in almost every season yet he continues to be ignored by the national selectors.
Yadav, who has enjoyed a good run of form in the shortest format of the game was the highest run-scorer for Mumbai Indians (MI) in 2018. In 2019, he amassed 424 runs to be MI’s second-highest run-getter. He was also the second-highest scorer for Mumbai in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy with 360 runs at an average of 51.
Moreover, SKY as he is fondly called has the most runs in the IPL by an uncapped Indian player with 1910 runs because of which he was backed by many to fetch a spot in the Indian team, at least in the shortest format for the Australia tour, but to everyone’s disappointment, he didn’t make the cut.
SuryaKumar Yadav’s snub shock cricketers and fans
- Sourav Ganguly should question the motive behind dropping Suryakumar Yadav: Dilip Vengsarkar
Former India skipper Dilip Vengsarkar expressed his surprise over the Mumbai star’s omission.
“I’m astounded at the omission of Surya, who is currently one of the most talented batsmen in the country, from the teams selected for the Australian tour,” Vengsarkar told the Times of India.
“As far as sheer potential is concerned, I can compare Surya with the best in the Indian team. He has scored runs consistently. I don’t know what else he has to do to merit a place in the Indian team,” he added.
“A batsman is at his peak from the age of 26 to 34. and I feel Surya (30) is at the peak of his career. If form and fitness is not the criteria, then what is it? Can anybody explain? With Rohit (Sharma) out of the team due to (a hamstring) injury, Surya should have been there to strengthen the middle order. BCCI president Ganguly should question the motive behind dropping Surya,” the former India chief selector remarked.

The all-round excellence of Suryakumar Yadav has been a treat to watch. Interesting that he talked about meditation to get over the hot-headed image he had acquired. Whatever the reason, he is playing the best cricket of his life.
