Money can’t buy you everything, at least not a sure shot performance in the Indian Premier League. Kolkata Knight Riders spent Rs 50 crores (approx) to buy Pat Cummins, Sunil Narine, Andre Russell, Dinesh Karthik and Kuldeep Yadav, but the franchise has failed to get any returns on the investments so far in IPL 2020.
Here we take at the performance of all the five players in IPL 2020 so far:
Pat Cummins (15.5 cr): The Australian pacer emerged as the top buy in IPL 2020 auction as he was sold to Kolkata Knight Riders for whopping Rs 15.5 crore. However, Cummins has failed to live upto the franchise’s expectations. In his first game of the IPL 2020, the 27-year-old went for 49 runs in three overs against Mumbai Indians and was even thrashed for his dreadful performance by fans.
Overall, Cummins has bowled 216 delivers in IPL 2020 so far and he has managed to bag just three wickets. Pat has been poor with the bat as well, as he has scored mere 130 runs in 10 games.
Sunil Narine (12.5 cr): Narine, who was once the talisman of KKR, has had a disappointing season so far as he has failed to contain runs or take wickets and his batting has been the biggest letdown, as he has scored 44 runs in six matches at a disappointing strike-rate of 110.
Narine, who earns Rs 12.5 cr per season, has not been effective with the ball as well, as he has picked just five wickets and his economic rate reads 8.09. To add to that, Narine’s bowling action also created trouble for Kolkata as he was reported by on-field umpires for suspect bowling action and was put on warning list which forced KKR to drop him from the playing XI. However, the Windies all-rounder was later cleared to bowl.
Andre Russell (8.5 cr): KKR all-rounder Russell, whose salary is Rs 8.5 crores, has tried various batting positions yet he has failed to deliver the goods with the willow. After playing nine games, the West Indian has scored just 92 runs at a dismal average of 11.50 and has clinched 6 wickets with a strike rate of 18. Interestingly, Russell, who is known for batting prowess, has hit only 6 sixes in the tournament so far. The 32-year-old was also dropped by KKR for the game against RCB due to his horrible performance so far in IPL 2020.
Dinesh Karthik (7.4 cr): The ex- KKR skipper is having a harrowed time in the IPL 2020. Karthik has been poor with the bat so far in this season owing to which the wicketkeeper-batsman even handed his captaincy to Eoin Morgan in the middle of the tournament. Karthik has so far accumulated 145 runs from 10 matches at a terrible average of 16.11. KKR might regret paying him Rs 7.4 crores this season.
Kuldeep Yadav (5.8 cr): Kuldeep is a player that needs no introduction as the chinaman is a crucial part of Team India. But his performance in IPL 2020 is nothing less than a nightmare. Kuldeep, who was retained by the two-time champions for a whopping Rs 5.8 cr in the 2019 edition has recorded only five appearances this season and picked just a wicket while giving away 92 runs. Notably, he has missed five games owing to his poor run with the leather so far this season.
