It has been more than three weeks since the commencement of Indian Premier League 2020 and the tournament has witnessed some fearless performances from players which has changed the course of the game for their respective sides.
Here we take a look at the top five fearless players in IPL 2020 so far:
Rahul Tewatia: 27-year-old Tewatia has been a star player for Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2020 as his fearless batting in death overs has rescued the team on multiple occasions.
First, it was the match against Kings XI Punjab, in which he smashed five sixes in an over to turnaround the game and help RR chase down a record 224-runs target in Sharjah, and then on Sunday, Tewatia played an identical inning once again to rescue RR against Sunrisers Hyderabad.
Chasing 159 on a sluggish surface, Rahul walked in at the 12-over mark with Royals in the doldrums, reduced to 78-5. With 81 needed off the last eight, leggie Rashid Khan was immaculately spinning a web from one end and unlike Sharjah, the boundaries were far bigger in Dubai.
The left-hander eased his way to nine off the first 14 balls and played cautiously. But later he turned into ‘hard-hitting’ mode and didn’t even spare no.1 T20 bowler Rashid Khan, who was at the receiving end in the 18th over as Tewatia hammered him for a hat-trick of fours.
With 22 needed off two overs, he launched into yorker-specialist T Natarajan for a four and a six over short fine leg that swung the match in the Royals’s favour.
Overall, Tewatia slammed 45 off 28 balls as the Royals overhauled the 159 run target with a ball to spare.
In the match against Royal Challengers Bangalore, Stoinis quick fired 53 in just 26 balls to power DC to 196 for four and it proved out to be the match-winning innings by the 31-year old as Delhi restricted RCB for 137 for nine.
Stoinis has been helpful for Delhi in the bowling department as well as he has the knack of picking wickets at crucial stages and breaking important partnerships.
Rahul Tripathi: He is one of those versatile batsmen who can score runs despite coming to bat at any position. In IPL 2020, Kolkata Knight Riders have sent Tripathi to bat at no.8 position, as well as an opener.
To everyone’s surprise, Rahul was outstanding at both the positions as he smashed 16-ball 36 when he batted at no.8, while the 29-year-old batsman hit 81 off just 51 balls including 8 fours and 3 sixes when he was sent to open. Tripathi’s approach to the game is fearless and that’s what makes him special.
Suryakumar Yadav: Mumbai Indians’ batsman Suryakumar Yadav is rapidly building his stature as a vital cog of the defending champions’ line-up with his dynamic batting. His outrageous range of shots has been a headache for oppositions and a game-changer for MI.
The 30-year-old batsman showed how fearless he is when after being hit on his head by a bouncer from Rajasthan Royal’s pacer Jofra Archer, Yadav gave a stunning reply on the very next ball as he came up with an outrageous shot to hit Archer for a six.
The England pacer bowled a full delivery just short of yorker length around the off stump before Suryakumar crouched down and scooped it over the wicketkeeper for a maximum.
Interestingly, MI’s opener Quinton de Kock praised Yadav for his fearless batting and said that he is not brave enough to play the shots the Indian batsman plays.
“I don’t think I’m brave enough to play any of them! But if I can reverse-lap Jofra Archer.. I wish I could do that! That’s about it, but I don’t think I’m brave enough to play a couple of shots he plays,” said South Africa’s limited-overs captain after being asked to name the one shot he wishes to take from Suryakumar Yadav’s book of batting.
Jofra Archer: Rajasthan Royals’ bowling all-rounder Jofra Archer is a weapon that can change the course of the game in an over or two. He brings the x-factor to the table, the fear factor for the opposition. His pace is too much to handle even for the best batsmen around the world and with the right line and length, the Englishman can create chaos.
Interestingly, Archer is the only bowler to have crossed the 150 kph mark in the IPL 2020 so far. The fastest ball he has bowled so far in this season is 152.13 kph while the other deliveries when he clocked beyond measured, 150.82 and 150.75 kph.
Archer is that kind of bowler who always have an attacking approach as he doesn’t care about getting hit for a boundary but he will always aim to clinch a wicket.
Notably, the 25-year-old has been fearless with the bat as well and he turned heads by smashing Lungi Ngidi for four consecutive sixes in the final over as Rajasthan Royals posted a massive 216/7 against Chennai Super Kings in the fourth of IPL 13.
