IPL 2021: Its been over a week since Mumbai Indians were crowned as the champions of Indian Premier League’s 13th season. It was a probably the best IPL season. With multiple twists and climaxes, the event had kept fans on the edge of their seat the entire time. There were some spectacular individual performances at display too.
Be it Nicholas Pooran’s flying catch, or Tewati’s five sixes in one over, there were multiple jaw-dropping moments in IPL 2020. Now, as we move towards IPL 2021, InsideSport brings you 10 best images which will sum up the entire IPL 2020 season.
1) When old meets new
Spirit of cricket was on full display in Dubai, when MS Dhoni helped out Prithvi Shaw with an eye issue which the latter faced during Delhi Capitals’ innings in Dubai. Shaw was struggling with his eyesight possibly due to dirt in his eye. He took Dhoni’s help first before calling for the physiotherapist Patrick Farhart on the field in the 9th over. Dhoni attended to him first before Farhart checked out the issue with Shaw’s eyes. The umpires called for a strategic time-out due to the break-in play.
2) Youngster greets his senior
When young Yashaswi Jaiswal met Dhoni in Rajasthan Royals vs Chennai Super Kings match, the reaction by the 18-year-old was one which awestruck everyone. Jaiswal after meeting his idol, quickly greeted him with a “Namaste”.
3) Dad’s army’s “LAST DANCE”
This was the last time we saw Chennai Super Kings taking the pitch with majority of its playing XI above 30. Although they did not have a memorable outing this season, the picture of Faf du Plessis and Shane Watson would for ages reverberate for the sheer brilliance CSK stood for.
4) KKR’s lucky charm has arrived
This is the first time Shah Rukh Khan was spotted in stands during the ongoing edition of the league in the UAE. He was present there with wife Gauri and son Aryan. With him in the stands, the Dinesh Karthik-led team found their lost charm and defeated Steve Smith’s RR to register their second win of the season.
5) Riyan Parag’s Bihu dance
Chasing 159, RR were left reeling at 78/5 at the end of 12th over with youngster Riyan Parag left in the middle with Rahul Tewatia. And oh boy they did it!
It was a stunning moment when Parag who struck a six off the penultimate ball of the final over when RR needed two runs off two balls to win. While bowler Khaleel Ahmed could only see the ball sailing away for a six, knowing that his team has lost the match, Parag celebrated the win in style.
The 18-year-old cricketer who plays domestic cricket for Assam, showcased a Bihu dance performance in the middle of the ground, that left the fans mesmerized.
6) Chris Gayle throws bat in disgust, gets fined
Chris Gayle, the Kings XI Punjab batsman, has been fined 10 per cent of his match-fee for breaching the Dream11 Indian Premier League’s (IPL) Code of Conduct during his team’s match against Rajasthan Royals at Abu Dhabi.
Gayle, who made 99 before KXIP lost by seven wickets, flung his bat away in frustration after being dismissed in the final over by Jofra Archer.
7) The Great Dhoni is tired
No one ever thought that they would see the great MS Dhoni kneeling down after running a run. But the unexpected became a reality. The former Indian skipper had after the match admitted that it was very hot and he found it hard to adapt to the conditions.
8) Mumbai Indians are champions
The way Mumbai Indians played in IPL 2020, it never seemed like they were returning from a forced break due to the pandemic. They dominated every match and emerged as a formidable force to reckon with for next season.
9) Opponents for 42 overs. Friends forever- MI vs RCBMI and RCB had a nail-biting clash on Monday. Bangalore won in the Super Over but once the match was over, players from both the sides stayed on-field to catch with old friends. Mumbai shared the picture on Yuzi Chahal, Zaheer Khan, Rohit Sharma, Mahela Jayawardene and Parthiv Patel in one frame and caption it “Opponent for 42 overs, friends for life”.
