IPL 2021: After successive failures, SRH coach Bayliss hints at Williamson’s return, says, ‘he is coming along’

IPL 2021: Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) coach Trevor Bayliss gives update on Kane Williamson and if Jonny Bairstow will continue; David Warner

IPL 2021: After successive failures, SRH coach Bayliss hints at Williamson’s return, says, ‘he is coming along’ – With two consecutive defeats, David Warner’s Sunrisers Hyderabad have hit a rut in IPL 2021. On Wednesday, what seemed like an easy victory against Royal Challengers Bangalore, turned out to second straight defeat for the team. With that, a lot of fans have already begun asking, where is Kane Williamson? SRH coach Trevor Bayliss answered that once again, “saying he is coming along and has joined the practice.”

“Williamson has started a bit of run down. He’s trained one of the days. We had two days of practice before this game. He practised on one of those days. So, he’s coming along,” Trevor Bayliss said at the post-match press conference.

New Zealand captain Kane Williamson is one batsman who is a star. His batting prowess is widely regarded in any format. But Williamson is recovering from an elbow injury that ruled him out of the New Zealand vs Bangladesh series. While he joined Sunrisers Hyderabad in time, he is not 100% fit to start for the team in IPL 2021. Hence, he has been overlooked in favour of Jonny Bairstow, who has been in fine form.

“We just felt that Kane needs a little bit of extra time to get his match fitness. A little bit more time in the nets. He would have played in place of Jonny Bairstow if that would have occurred. But we weren’t too perturbed about that. Jonny has been in form obviously recently in white-ball cricket here in India. And obviously showed in how he batted well tonight,” Trevor Bayliss said after the match against KKR.

Kane Williamson’s absence in the first two matches was felt badly. With Wriddhiman Saha struggling with his form, apart from David Warner and Manish Pandey and Bairstow, there is no batsman in the middle order who could anchor the innings. Williamson’s inclusion will bolster the batting depth and Bairstow could open with Warner to give SRH a better opening stand.

However, if Kane Williamson and Jonny Bairstow both are to play, Jason Holder or Mohammad Nabi will miss out and will weaken the bowling department. It remains to be seen if SRH team management takes the risk of including a recovering Kane Williamson and benches an in-form Jonny Bairstow or goes with both and weakens bowling attack.
