IPL 2021 Phase 2 – Delhi Captials Ricky Ponting: Ajay Ratra declares, preparation of Delhi Capitals now in full swing, ‘Ricky Ponting monitoring sessions via zoom’ – Delhi Capitals coach Ajay Ratra believes that the franchise has sufficient time to get back into rhythm as they aim to make a fresh start to the final phase of the season, which is scheduled to begin from 19 September in UAE. The suspension was far from ideal for last season’s beaten finalists, who were at the top of the standings before the IPL 2021 was postponed. With Ricky Ponting yet to join the team for the training camp, Ratra and Pravin Amre have been handed the reins, while the former Australian captain keeps an eye on developments virtually.

IPL 2021 Phase 2 – Delhi Captials Ricky Ponting: Delhi Capitals were among the first teams to land in the UAE for the training camp as they prepare for the IPL 2021 Phase 2. A host of their players are unavailable due to international commitments, while head coach Ricky Ponting and Bowling Coach James Hopes are yet to join the team in the UAE. While Ajay Ratra and Pravin Amre have been overlooking the Delhi Capitals’ pre-season camp, the former revealed that Ponting and the management have been in direct contact throughout.
Ajay Ratra revealed, “We have been in touch with Ricky and Hopes. We do zoom calls with Delhi Capitals management regularly, and everyone from the coaching staff attends it, including our strength and conditioning Coach Rajinikanth Sivagnanam, Physios Dhananjay Kaushik and Patrick Farhart.”
The Delhi Capitals assistant coach added, “We usually discuss the kind of practice regimes we need to set. Also, when this camp started Pravin Bhai (Pravin Amre) presented the whole plan to Ricky and all the other coaches. Similarly, I shared fielding plans for this camp with everyone.”
IPL 2021 Phase 2 – Delhi Captials Ricky Ponting: Delhi Capitals had a great run in the first half of the IPL 2021, with six wins from their eight games. When quizzed whether the break would affect their momentum, Ratra opined that while a stoppage is not ideal, the team has enough time to get back into rhythm and continue from where they left off earlier this year.
Ratra said, “It’s a different season altogether, generally it happens in full flow, and we had good momentum in the first half. Now that it’s happening after a break, so we will have to start afresh, and that’s why our franchise has organized this camp a little early. We do have sufficient time to get back into the rhythm we had in the first half of the competition, and fortunately, most of our players have been playing international cricket.”
