IPL 2021 Auction: Kolkata Knight Riders unlikely to renew contracts with Dinesh Karthik, Kuldeep Yadav

IPL 2021 Auction – Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) may release Dinesh Karthik, Kuldeep YadavIn the last two Indian Premier League (IPL) seasons Shah Rukh Khan’s KKR has failed to make it to play-offs, despite the presence of big names in the squad. KKR is likely to release few big names from the squad before the deadline of 21st January.

According to information coming in from the KKR sources, Kolkata team is unlikely to continue with former captain Dinesh Karthik (7.4Cr) & Kuldeep Yadav (5.8Cr) in the squad for IPL 2021.

“KKR already has Tom Banton, talented Nikhil Naik as wicket-keeping options in the squad. Team may continue with them and will let go off other options”, said one of the source close to team management of KKR.

Karthik form both as captain and team’s leading batsman was questionable during IPL 2020. The former Indian stumper lost his captaincy to England’s white-ball captain Eoin Morgan in the middle of the tournament and now he is all set to lose the IPL contract. Karthik could only score 169 runs in 14 games @ 14

Kuldeep Yadav also likely to lose his place: The source further told InsideSport, Indian spinner Kuldeep Yadav will be the other one which team is likely to release before the deadline of 21st January.

With emergence of Varun Chakrawarthy, KKR team management feels their is little room for Kuldeep to be in the XI.

By releasing both these players KKR will have 13.2 Cr back in their player purse which can be spent on during the auctions. KKR at this stage has 8.5 Cr in their players kitty.

IPL 2021 Player Auction: KKR still indecisive about Pat Cummins

KKR team management will also have another big decision to make in the next 10 days. Decision about Australian all rounder Pat Cummins. The fast bowling ace was the highest paid foreigner in IPL 2020 and was signed for 15.5 cr by KKR.

But his on-ground performance was questionable during the 13th edition of IPL. Cummins other than 1-2 occasions could hardly make any impact and failed to justify his hefty price tag.

He scored 146 runs in 14 matches and scalped 12 wickets. But did he single-handedly won matches for KKR – the answer was NO.

KKR may decide to let-go Cummins but the decision on the same is still pending.

Contract renewals for Andre Russell (8.5 Cr) and Sunil Narine (12.5 Cr) are also in discussion. Russell’s form and fitness is in question and Narine’s bowling action is of prime concern for the KKR management.

KKR is also thinking to give bigger responsibility to very impressive Shubman Gill – that is by grooming him as future leader as a understudy to captain Eoin Morgan.
