IPL 2021 Auction – RCB star Devdutt Padikkal in-line for big salary hike, courtesy his dazzling ton in Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 game: Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) star opener Devdutt Padikkal once again proved his mettle as he smashed unbeaten 99 to power Karnataka to 10-run win over Tripura in Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 tournament on Thursday. Interestingly, Padikkal will now be eyeing for a big pay hike in his new contract with RCB in IPL 2021 as he was roped in by the Bengaluru-based franchise just for Rs 20 lakhs in 2019.
It should be noted that Padikkal, after sitting out in IPL 2019, turned out to be a star performer for RCB in IPL 2020. The 20-year-old smashed 473 runs, including five half-centuries, in 15 matches at an impressive average of 31.53 and a strike rate of 124.80.
Padikkal broke many records on his way to glory in IPL 2020.
- Devdutt is the only player to score three half-centuries in the first four fixtures of IPL.
- He became the first batsman in 10 years to score a half-century on IPL debut.
- 473 – The southpaw holds the record for the most number of runs scored by an uncapped player in the debut season.
- He ended IPL 2020 campaign as RCB’s top scorer. Notably, since 2014, no other player (except Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers) has topped the run-chart for RCB.
Considering his top-notch performance for RCB, Padikkal will be surely hoping for a better pay grade which he is likely to get as RCB won’t let go the player of his calibre.
