IPL 2021 Auctions – Marnus Labuschagne to register for IPL 2021 auction: Australia star batsman Marnus Labuschagne is set to enter IPL 2021 auction as the 26-year-old recently revealed his desire to participate in ‘great’ Indian Premier League during a BBL post-match interview. Notably, the player auction for the 14th edition of Indian Premier League will be held on February 18 in Chennai.
“I think so, I think so [will be registering for the IPL]. That will obviously be released really soonish anyway. You throw your name in the hat and see what happens. You know, like I’ve said that the IPL is a great competition. Personally, I would love to be part of it but, let’s see what happens,” said Labuschagne, who played for Brisbane Heat in Big Bash League 2021.
The star batsman is also hoping that an IPL call-up will help him fill a long gap between Tests.
Notably, the postponement of a tour of South Africa means that Australia’s next Test might not come until the start of the next home summer, when they host England and speaking on the same, Labuschagne said, “Very disappointing to not be playing Test cricket for so long. I hope (there is potential to play sooner). If not, you need to make sure you get yourself ready for the Ashes. There’s no bigger series to get up for.”
IPL 2021 Auctions: Why Labuschagne can be a hot property in auctions?
Marnus Labuschagne is currently one of Australia’s best batsmen. Although he has shown unbelievable consistency in Test cricket, the 26-year-old believes he possesses the skills to be successful in all three formats.
Labuschagne recently helped the Heats seal a playoff spot in BBL 2021 and also became the first player in the tournament’ history to score 40+ runs and also taken 3+ wickets in the same game.
Although an unorthodox style of play, Labuschange was very instrumental for Australia throughout the series against India. In ODI’s he scored 79 runs in three matches including one 50. Although the score might not be very impressive, but it is more to do with his inconsistent batting order.
However, it is his form in the Test series which might get him an IPL contract. He was the most consistent Australian batsman in Test especially in 3rd and 4th Test. He scored 426 runs, including a century, in the four-match series at an impressive average of 53.25.
Overall, in just 18 Tests, the right-handed batsman has scored 1885 runs at an outstanding average of 60.80. He also has a decent average of 39.41 in his short ODI career so far.
While many might believe Labuschagne’s ‘technically-sound’ game would not be suitable for the T20 format, he proved his critics wrong in the BBL 2021. He scored 176 runs in just six innings at a decent average of 29.33, along with a good strike-rate of 123.08. Labuschagne also picked 10 wickets, thus making him ideal for the T20 format.
IPL 2021 Auctions: Which teams can target Labuschagne in auctions?
Labuschagne can be on the priority list of the CSK as the three-time champions can rope in the Australian batsman to fix their struggling top-order.
Also, RCB, having released players like Aaron Finch, Chris Morris, Moeen Ali, Shivam Dube, will be in a search of a top-order batsman and an all-rounder. Hence, the Bengaluru-based franchise might be keen to buy Labuschagne.
Other than CSK and RCB, RR and SRH will also be interested in Marnus Labuschagne to fix their top-order woes.
