IPL 2021: Van der Dussen will not join RR squad; Rassie van der Dussen, who was supposed to join Rajasthan Royals as a replacement for Ben Stokes will not be making the move.

According to reports from ESPNcricinfo, he got a visa to fly to India but failed to obtain a No-Objection Certificate (NOC) from Cricket South Africa, who cited injury as the reason for this. The right-hander has been in tremendous form in T20 cricket with his last five scores being 37, 25*, 74*, 34*, and 52.

IPL 2021: Van der Dussen will not join RR squad: Earlier, the Proteas was reported to have been roped in for Stokes, who was ruled out due to a finger injury. The England international could only play RR’s opening game against Punjab Kings (PBKS) where he sustained the injury.

Thereafter, he returned to England in order to recover from his injury. The Royals also lost Jofra Archer due to a hand injury and Liam Livingstone due to ‘bubble fatigue’. The omissions have significantly jolted RR, who are straining in the second half of the points table. Archer was the Most Valuable Player (MVP) in IPL 2020 despite the team finishing at the bottom of the ladder.

IPL 2021: Rajasthan Royals sign Proteas pacer Gerald Coetzee

The Royals, meanwhile, named 20-year-old South African fast bowler Gerald Coetzee as a replacement for England batter Liam Livingstone in IPL 2021. Coetzee has landed in India and finished his quarantine, and trained with the Royals squad on Saturday.

The Royals’ overseas roster has dwindled to just five, including Jos Buttler, David Miller, Chris Morris, Mustafizur Rahman and Coetzee.

Coetzee represents the Knights in South Africa’s domestic circuit and has also played two Under-19 World Cups. He has nine wickets and an economy rate of 7.68 in eight T20s.

The severe state of the pandemic in India is likely to make it hard for the Royals to arrange for replacement players for their internationals. Six games into their season they are placed second from bottom on the points table with only two wins. They play their next game on Sunday, against the bottom-placed Sunrisers Hyderabad.
