IPL 2021 – Lucknow new IPL City: Along with Ahmedabad, Lucknow is the frontrunner to get included in the Indian Premier League caravan very soon. BCCI themselves is very keen to market city of Lucknow as new IPL destination & also as a major cricket centre. For the same, BCCI plans to host Kane Williamson’s New Zealand for a test match at new venue.

According to a report by TOI, the match against New Zealand will be hosted at the new Atal Bihari Vajpayee Stadium which has a capacity to seat nearly 70,000 fans. The series is scheduled right after the T20 World Cup and will be India’s chance to avenge their defeat at the hands of same opponent in the World Test Championship Finals.

According to the report, BCCI has finalized the venues for the two Test matches against New Zealand. The other Test match will be played at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.

“The stadium has good facilities and a capacity of nearly 70,000. That’s a good deal for any IPL franchise. Like Ahmedabad, it’s important to give Lucknow exposure to marquee international matches before the IPL teams are finalized. Lucknow was also shortlisted as a venue for the T20 World Cup had it happened in India,” a senior BCCI official told TOI.

Why BCCI wants to market Lucknow as next big cricket centre in the country?

The BCCI intends to exploit the flourishing Hindi market through the IPL. The move to give prominence to centre like Lucknow is to exploit the Hindi speaking market & further increase the ratings of the league & cricket in the country.

Schedule / Teams / Live / Points Table / Orange Cap / Purple Cap

Keeping the zonal imbalance and business opportunities in mind, the BCCI has put up six cities — Guwahati, Ranchi, Cuttack (all East), Ahmedabad (West), Lucknow (Central Zone) and Dharamsala (North) — for sale.
