IPL 2021: Big Test for Mumbai Indians, Biggest Test for Hardik Pandya, Suryakumar Yadav & Ishan Kishan as selectors keeping close eye on them  – Defending Champions Mumbai Indians are in deep trouble in IPL 2021 phase 2 as they are yet to win a game in UAE this year. They have faced defeat against RCB, CSK and KKR. And are now ranked 7th in the points table just above Sunrisers Hyderabad. Rohit Sharma’s MI have four wins in 10 games and now they will have to win the rest of their matches and still wait for the other team results in order to qualify for the playoffs. The five-time champions will face Punjab Kings in their next game on Tuesday here at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium, Abu Dhabi. After this game, they will be left with matches against Delhi Capitals who are in top form, Rajasthan Royals and Sunrisers Hyderabad who are struggling.

Mumbai Indians know how to bounce back in crucial games, they have done it in past. They are one of the few teams who won all last 7 league games and then went on to lift the title. But will that be the case for this year? MI’s top star performers from previous seasons – Hardik Pandya, Ishan Kishan and Suryakumar Yadav – are struggling with form. The trio got selected in the Team India for the 2021 ICC T20 World Cup. But ever since then their form has dipped. Thus Indian selectors are also keeping a close eye on them.

Out of form MI players

Hardik Pandya

Hardik did not play the first two matches of IPL’s UAE leg this year. When he made a comeback into the team he did not bowl at all and scored just 3 runs against RCB. In the 8 matches that Hardik has featured this year, he has managed to score just 55 runs with not even a single wicket to his name. In fact, in all eight matches, he did not bowl at all for MI. Hardik is the only fast-bowling all-rounder in the Indian T20 circuit. Thus India has invested in Hardik Pandya. Now the T20 World Cup is just around the corner and he has hit rock bottom. It will be interesting to see how selectors react to his dip in form.

Ishan Kishan

Ishan Kishan has been selected in India’s T20 World Cup team as a backup opener over Shikhar Dhawan who holds the orange cap in IPL 2021 and as a backup wicket-keeper over Sanju Samson who is in top-notch form this year. When both his top contenders are in top form, Ishan Kishan on the other kind is struggling with form. In the 8 games that Ishan has played this year, the left-hand batsman has just managed to score 107 runs at an average of 13.37 and a strike rate of 86.99. Ishan will have to pull up his socks and start gearing up for the final stage of the IPL 2021.

Suryakumar Yadav

Suryakumar Yadav replaced Shreyas Iyer in Team India as Iyer got injured ahead of the IPL 2021. And Yadav picked up the form at the right moment to replace Iyer on the side. But now that SKY has been selected in the Team India’s squad for the ICC T20 World Cup, his form has gone south for MI. In 10 games he has scored 189 runs at the strike rate of 129.45 which is less than his average strike rate. Yadav will look to improve his batting in the last 4 games of MI and help them win these do or die contests.
