IPL 2021 – CSK Camp from 11th Mar: Even as BCCI is losing its sleep and in a huddle to finalize the venues and schedule for the 14th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2021), Chennai Super Kings (CSK) has decided to hold its team camp in Chennai from March 11. Team captain MS Dhoni will also be attending the camp right from the Day 1.
Inside Sports has learnt from a top CSK official that camp has been initiated after consultation with team leader Dhoni.
“Yes, we are expecting all players to start coming in batches. Captain MS Dhoni will be available and attending the camp from day one. Players availability should not be an issue. We are very hopeful that the camp will successfully begin and we will strictly follow the same bio-bubble protocol and no additional measures are required to be taken at this stage. We have put in place stringent health and safety protocols for the camp and all the participants will follow mandatory testing,’ the top official confirmed to Inside Sport.
It is important to mention that two CSK players had tested positive for Covid 19 during the camp in UAE last year and one franchise becoming a “COVID-19 hotspot” had become an issue for other teams as well as the BCCI. BCCI and IPL Governing Council had categorically mentioned that it will be the responsibility of all the franchisees to strictly follow the guidelines and protocol and any violation will be accordingly dealt with.
“Last year it was unfortunate and we have learnt our lesson. This year we hope and pray nothing like that happens but as of now, we don’t see any reason why additional measures should be taken. We trust our contingency and logistical plans.”
The BCCI, in a release issued on the official IPL website, had said that a total of 1,988 RT-PCR Covid tests were done from August 20th-28th. Without naming any of them, the release said that 13 personnel had tested COVID-19 positive of which two were players.”If there are 13 cases from only one franchise then it is an issue for sure for everyone. The biggest aspect will be whether foreign cricketers will now start being panicky as they are more touchy about these issues,” a BCCI official had said last year.
Marred by Suresh RaIna controversy and Covid cases, CSK had its worst-ever performance in the IPL 2020, where they finished seventh in an eight-team competition — the first time ever it had failed to reach the knockout stage.
