IPL 2021 – CSK MS Dhoni: After the debacle of IPL 13th, Chennai Super Kings captain MS Dhoni is trying his best to make IPL 2021 very special for his team. This has been revealed by CSK’s promoter N.Srinivasan. According to CSK’s owner, Dhoni is practicing very hard in Chennai and in-fact is training in two sessions to make himself match-ready for IPL 2021.
“For your information MS Dhoni is in Chennai. He takes his cricket so seriously, he is practicing in morning in the indoor nets and in the afternoon he is practicing at Chepauk”, revealed Srinivasan at India Today Conclave South.
Dhoni has led CSK to 8 IPL finals. Not only this, but before IPL 2020, not even once CSK had failed to made it to the playoff as they endured their worst season last year. But CSK promoter decided to continue his bond with the former Indian captain. At the conclave he was asked why?
“He is a very determined person and that is what we like. One more thing, Cricket is about winning, IPL is about winning but there are also things such as consistency and loyalty and I think that is what oozes out in our bond”, said Srinivasan.
Right from the inception of the IPL in 2008, Dhoni has been part of CSK. He has become a cult figure in Chennai due to his success in the IPL. He has won 3 IPL titles and 2 Champions League T20 trophies with them till date. He has captained CSK in a total of 197 games (IPL & CLT20) out of which he has won 119 T20s and lost 76 times.
According to the CSK promoter, ’such consistency’ as a person and a player can’t be replaced.
IPL 2021: CSK shares a glimpse of MS Dhoni’s huge sixes from training camp ahead of IPL season
Just 2 days back, CSK also gave a glimpse of CSK’s practice session where Dhoni was seen in action. Mahi was in full flow with the bat at nets and was seen hitting sixes at will.
In a video, shared by the CSK, MS Dhoni can be seen hitting huge sixes in the training session that will leave you mesmerized. “Mahi way all the way!!! #Thala #WhistlePodu #Yellove” Chennai Super Kings captioned the tweet post.
Fans will be hoping to see Dhoni smash balls out of the park in IPL 2021 as it could be his last season in a cash-rich league. Also known as ‘the Dad’s army’, CSK is one of the first franchises in IPL to hit the nets. This is due to the presence of veteran players who have retired from their national side.
CSK have a new-look squad for this season after buying 6 new players – Moeen Ali (Rs 7 crores), Krishnappa Gowtham (Rs 9.25 crore), Cheteshwar Pujara (Rs 50 lakhs), Harishankar Reddy (Rs 20 lakhs), K Bhagath Varma (Rs 20 lakhs), Hari Nishanth (Rs 20 lakhs) – in the open auction last month.
They had retained 18 players including Dhoni and vice-captain Suresh Raina, and snapped up batsman Robin Uthappa from Rajasthan Royals during the trading window in January.
When the IPL 2021 season will kick off in April, MS Dhoni will be aiming to win the silverware for the fourth time in his IPL career. CSK would like to forget the IPL 2020 failure in UAE and start afresh. MS Dhoni, in particular, had also failed to put in key performances with the bat. The 39-year-old managed just 200 runs in 14 matches at a strike rate of 116.
Dhoni’s overall stats are very impressive; he has scored 4,632 runs in the Indian Premier League. It includes 23 half-centuries at a strike rate of 136. The right-handed batsman would like to score as many runs as possible in IPL 2021 and reach the 5,000 runs landmark.
