IPL 2021: CSK star Faf du Plessis slams excellent 84 in CPL 2021; just days after T20 World Cup snub – Faf du Plessis let his bat do the talking after the veteran South African star scored a stellar fifty for the St Lucia Kings in the ongoing CPL. The Chennai Super Kings superstar had been in the news over the past couple of days having been omitted from South Africa’s T20 World Cup squad, despite making himself available for selection.

Faf du Plessis, who captains the St Lucia Kings, led from the front as his side sealed a crunch win as the CPL 2021 heads into the final round of league games next week. Coming into bat after the fall of Andre Fletcher off the second ball of the innings, du Plessis showed great composure as he negated the threat of Mohammed Amir before cutting loose. The CSK star eventually perished after a fine hand of 84, helping his team to 175 in their quota of overs. In response, the Barbados Royals fizzled out in their run chase, as they failed to find an anchor like du Plessis in their side, eventually losing by 14 runs (D/L method).

Du Plessis’ innings is timely as it shows South Africa what they’ll be missing during the T20 World Cup. The veteran had stepped down from Test cricket to prolong his white-ball career but has featured in less than 30 per cent of their games since the 2019 World Cup. His 84 takes his tally to 277 runs, making him the second-highest run-getter in the CPL 2021.

CSK meanwhile would hope that Du Plessis can continue his fine form when he returns to the UAE for Phase 2 of IPL 2021. The veteran was amongst the leading run-scorers in the earlier part of the tournament, forming a formidable axis at the top of the order with Ruturaj Gaikwad. The MS Dhoni-led side will begin their campaign on September 19 and resume at second place in the standings.
