IPL 2021, MI vs CSK: It wasn’t bowlers day and when a T20 match is played at Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium in Delhi with the pitch assisting batters, it was always going to be difficult for bowlers. However, Chennai Super Kings’ Lungi Ngidi particularly disappointed as a bowler of his class gave away 62 runs in 4 overs. His 0/62 in 4 overs was the worst from a bowler in IPL 2021 as Kieron Pollard smashed him around the stadium to record MI’s best chase in IPL history.

After putting 218-run total, thanks to quickfire half-centuries from Faf du Plessis, Moeen Ali and Ambati Rayudu, Chennai Super Kings were banking on the bowlers, especially their ace Lungi Ngidi to defend the total. But he disappointed big time.
Over 1 (6th over): Rohit Sharma takes on, smashes Ngidi for 14 runs after Deepak Chahar put CSK back in the game conceding just 4 runs.
Over 2 (14th over): After Ravindra Jadeja went for 20, Lungi Ngidi was supposed to bring CSK back in the game. But Kieron Pollard hits him for 2 sixes as he concedes 16 runs.
Over 3 (16th over): Again, he was brought back to check MI’s scoring rate after Shardul Thakur went for 23 in the previous over. But, as CSK were approaching crucial death overs, Krunal Pandya hit him for 16 runs.
Over 4 (20th over): With MI needing 16 runs off the last over, MS Dhoni gave the ball to Ngidi to get the job done. But his full tosses gave Kieron Pollard the chance to get the 16 runs
IPL 2021, MI vs CSK: Lungi Ngidi’s poor form costs Chennai Super Kings
However, it was not a one-off. Lungi Ngidi hasn’t been in his best form coming into IPL 2021. Before joining the CSK squad, he was particularly expensive for South Africa against Pakistan at home. In two ODIs that he played, Lungi Ngidi conceded 65 and 66 runs respectively in the first two ODIs.
In IPL 2021, he hasn’t delivered the way CSK want him to. Apart from the game against Kolkata Knight Riders, where he bagged three wickets for 28 runs, he hasn’t found much success.
Against Sunrisers Hyderabad, Lungi Ngidi conceded 35 runs in exchange for 2 wickets. But on a batting-friendly surface, where Lungi Ngidi’s skills were what Chennai Super Kings needed, the South African pacer gave away 62 runs without any wicket on Saturday to gift the game away.

After the match, Chennai Super Kings captain MS Dhoni also rued the poor execution and said the bowlers would learn from this.
“It was a brilliant wicket. The difference was the execution. Not being too tough on bowlers, we dropped catches at crucial intervals. The bowlers would execute better and learn from this. If you look at how it went, we were very off target when it came to execution. It is important to do that. The wicket was easy to hit,” MS Dhoni told host broadcaster Star Sports after the match.
Most expensive spells of IPL 2021:
