IPL 2021: Chennai Super Kings head coach Stephen Fleming has called skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni the team’s heartbeat and said the desire to do well even after playing 200 matches is a testament to his attitude towards the game and the franchise. Dhoni has been leading the side since the inaugural edition of the league in 2008.

“I think the franchise has grown and MS has grown with it, so it is a great relationship and great fun. He is the heartbeat of CSK, there’s no doubt about it. Whether it’s performance, guidance or leadership, you run out of things to say about him,” Stephen Flemming said at the post-match press conference, speaking about Dhoni’s 200-match milestone.

IPL 2021: MS Dhoni 200 matches for CSK

MS Dhoni has played 175 matches for CSK in IPL and 24 matches in the Champions League T20. His team, Chennai Super Kings (CSK), treated their skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni with a fantastic all-round performance on Friday to win against Punjab Kings by six wickets.

“Longevity is also something that is to be appreciated and mentioned. To play 200 games and still have a desire to do well and, and perform well, is a testament to his attitude. Firstly, towards the game, but also to the franchise as well. I think that the franchise has grown and he MS has grown with it. So, it’s a very good relationship and a great fit,” Stephen Fleming added. 

Dhoni on his 200th match:

“Makes me feel very old and it has been a very long journey. It started in 2008 – played in SA, Dubai, and back home. Never thought Mumbai would be our home. In 2011, the last time that we were happy with the Chennai wicket. Before that, there was spin, but it also helped fast bowlers,” Dhoni told host broadcaster Star Sports after the match.
