IPL 2021: Jasprit Bumrah is all set to represent defending champions Mumbai Indians in the first match of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 on Friday. He is returning from his honeymoon after getting married last month. His wife Sanjna Ganesan is getting back to work too, in IPL itself.
Ganesan has been announced as part of the team of presenters chosen for the IPL 2021 telecast by broadcasters Star Sports. With the network presenting the coverage in various languages, these presenters will have to conduct the interviews in more than one language.
It’s quite possible that, at some stage, she may have to interview her hubby Bumrah. Such situations are not unknown in the world of cricket. In 2016, Martin Guptill was interviewed after scoring a century by her wife Laura McGoldrick. It was a very sober interview that would hardly have suggested any relationship between the two. Will Bumrah and Sanjna be equally sober?
Sanjna and Jasprit were in a relationship for some period before their eventual marriage. However, the relationship remained only rumoured. It was only when the pictures of the couple, at their wedding ceremony, came out, that the rumours were confirmed.
Bumrah entered quarantine on March 30 before joining his teammates in the bubble. He will be a vital cog in the wheel of success for Mumbai Indians if they have to continue their winning streak.
In the history of the IPL, no team has won three successive titles. Chennai Super Kings came close to achieving this feat in 2012 when they reached the final and set a target of 191 for Kolkata Knight Riders. But due to a brilliant knock by Manvinder Bisla, they lost a close match and ended up as runners-up.
Mumbai are already the most successful team in the history of the IPL. They have won the title five times – including three in the last four seasons. Bumrah formed a great bowling partnership earlier with Lasith Malinga and now, is doing the same with Trent Boult. If he succeeds, Mumbai Indians would be closer to the elusive hat-trick.
