IPL 2021: Jaydev Unadkat says, ‘Morris couldn’t middle first few balls, kept telling him that it was just about one hit’ after 3-wicket victory- Jaydev Unadkat, who played a key role with the ball and later with the bat, shared the talk that he had with Morris during the backend of the match. He said that he kept pushing him for that one big hit to take the game in favour of Rajasthan Royals.

“Trying to keep it simple and calm out in the middle. Because during those times when you are in the pressure situation, at times you lose your mind and start thinking ahead of the ball. We were talking to each other and telling each other to watch the ball nicely and just go for. I think, he couldn’t middle the first few balls and I kept telling him that it was just about one hit. The ball was coming on to the bat and way he was swinging it. We were confident that we were just a couple of hits away. But, it was amazing hitting by Morris, I would say the sixes that he hit against Kagiso were probably some of the best shots today,” Unadkat said.

After ending up with 15/3 in 4 overs, Unadkat said that it was a fresh wicket.

“First of all, I think it wasn’t on the slower side. If your see the stats, it was just about four or five slow balls that I bowled in the powerplay. It seemed more because I got wickets on those balls. More than that, it was seaming a little bit. I can say that there was little moisture to start with and it increased with the game progressed that’s why it was still seaming when they came into ball. I think it was fresh wicket and there was different from the last wicket where we played in and this wicket I guess. That’s why the good length deliveries were flying off the pitch and were hard to hit early on.”

Shedding light on Chetan Sakariya, Uandkat said that the youngster is a good prospect for RR.

“I think he has come a long away after making his debut for Saurashtra 3-4 years back. I’ve seen him grow as a cricketer. He is someone who puts his body on the line and give more than 100% everytime he is out on the field. And, you need such players in your team who can contribute in more than one way. I think he is someone who actually feels that game and very happy for him the way he has started his IPL career.”

Unadkat said that it was much-needed win in IPL 2021.

“It’s always about that one good game. Happy to have contributed today. I think we needed this as a team. After losing a close game first up, it’s always good to come out in the winning side in these close games. It gives a lot of confidence to the team and gives a lot of momentum in the format. So happy to have contributed in the game and able to execute what and how I wanted to do.”

On his dismissal of Prithvi Shaw, Unadkat said, “I think field placement is something that we talk about a lot in our bowlers meetings as well. We had a couple of plans in place for Prithvi, he played really well in last match. He tries to hit a lot of balls down the ground a lot and if you have a protection down there, the batsman would obviously try and do something new.”
