IPL 2021: Dinesh Karthik hits top form- Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) would be a happy team seeing Dinesh Karthik finding his rhythm back ahead of their IPL 2021 campaign. After a disappointing IPL 2020 campaign in the UAE, he wasn’t at his best in domestic cricket as well. But in the 3rd intra-squad practice match for KKR in Chennai, Karthik scored 90 off just 50 balls, showing he still is an important player for the team.

KKR shared a four-minute clip of his wonderful knock in the practice as Dinesh Karthik was seen bossing over the bowlers en route his 90 off just 50 balls. “Our first intra-squad practice game was all about his stellar 90 off 50 balls,” KKR said in the caption of the video clip.

Will Dinesh Karthik be able to guide KKR to their 3rd IPL title in IPL 2021?

Going by the wicket-keeper batsman’s form, it was difficult to assume that Kolkata Knight Riders would retain him ahead of the IPL 2021 auction. But they showed faith in the Tamil Nadu batsman, giving him vice-captain’s responsibility after he stepped down as the captain during last season.

The last IPL was particularly hard on him. Karthik managed only 169 runs in 14 innings including just one fifty. His strike rate of just 126.11 also did not help his case. In Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, although he returned to form, scoring 183 runs for Tamil Nadu’s title run with an average of 61.00, Karthik could only manage 83 runs from five innings in the Vijay Hazare Trophy.

But now that the captaincy responsibility is off him, Karthik will want to get back to scoring form for KKR and silence his critics who wanted him to be dropped. However, if he does not do well this time, not only he will not have the chance to compete for a place in India’s T20 World Cup squad but will lose his place in KKR as well.

“It’s a lot different. Right now, I’m the vice-captain and I try and help Morgan with whatever I can but more importantly I try and focus a lot more on my skills, and I know if I do it well it will be very useful for the team,” Karthik said while answering to a fan’s question on Twitter.
