The opening clash will take place between defending champions Mumbai Indians (MI) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in Chennai on April 9. While Rohit Sharma-led Mumbai Indians will begin their quest for a hat-trick of IPL titles and sixth overall, Virat Kohli’s RCB must be aiming to start well in their bid to maiden (IPL 2021) trophy. Virat Kohli as Opening batsman

RCB skipper Virat Kohli has confirmed that he will open the batting of RCB in IPL 2021. He was in amazing form in the limited-overs series against England. Royal Challengers Bangalore had released Aaron Finch who opened for them in IPL 2020. Karnataka batsman Devdutt Padikkal who excelled at the top spot in the last IPL season will open with Kohli.

Devdutt Padikkal in red-hot form

The future India prospect Devdutt Padikkal emerged as the second-highest run-getter in the recently concluded Vijay Hazare Trophy 2021 (737 runs). He smashed 4 back-to-back hundreds in the domestic competition for Karanataka. He can go on to smash a hundred for RCB in the opening contest.

AB De Villiers could set IPL 2021 opener on fire

Adam Zampa, De Kock may miss the season opener

RCB bowler Adam Zampa will miss the opening match as he is getting married.
