IPL 2021 – Virat Kohli’s message to Mohammed Azharudeen: Kerala wicketkeeper-batsman Mohammed Azharudeen became an overnight star after his scintillating knock in the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy. The 26-year-old had smashed 137 runs from 52 balls against Mumbai at the Wankhede Stadium, which had made him one of the hottest property at the IPL 2021 auctions.

Following the T20 domestic tournament he had revealed that he aspires to play in the Indian Premier League for Royal Challengers Bangalore. He further mentioned that he is a big Virat Kohli fan, and it is one of the reasons he dreams of donning the RCB jersey.

A few days later, his dream turned into reality, when RCB roped his at his base price of INR 20 lakhs. The Kerala-batman revealed that after he was picked by RCB, Kohli had sent a special message to him.

He added initially he did not believe that it was Kohli’s text and it was only after Sanju Samson verified the number, Azharudeen replied back.

“Yes, two minutes after the auction he texted me. ‘Welcome to RCB, all the best. Virat here.’ Firstly, I was shocked. I didn’t reply initially. I went to Sanju bhai and asked him if it’s Virat bhai’s number. After Sanju confirmed it, only after that I replied back. I never thought he will message me. I also responded to the message as I wrote, ‘That means my world.’ I am so excited and I am looking forward to meeting him in the IPL,” Azharuddeen said.

Azharudeen was one of the best steals for RCB at the auctions. The right-handed batsman’s versatility to bat at any position will make him a trump card for the Royal Challengers.

He has played 24 T20 matches so far in his career and scored 451 runs with a strike rate of 142.13.
